R50/53 If you could do it over, would you still buy a Mini...
No, I would not buy another one. I have a '04 S with pretty much all the options. Sticker was $30k plus with mods that have been done, it ended up being close to $35k.
So many little annoying electrical issues that most are familiar with but the fit and finish could use a lot of improvements at least the '04 year anyways. It seems nothing is cover under warranty and it doesn't help that my local dealers sucks big time.
The latest issue I have are:
1. Key fob went bad. New one costs $350+. Suck it up and got one.
Passenger window works intermittenly for over 3 years. Of course, not under warranty and never fixed it.

No Way! If I had researched before I bought the 2007 MCS, there is no freaking way I would have bought it based on all the carbon issues, fuel problems and other BS that continually goes wrong with these cars. It was an impulse buy. I so far have had no issues, but at the first good opportunity it will be gone. I must add that I live 225 miles from the nearest MINI dealer and that weighs heavily on my descision.
Note to self, read first buy second and NOT the other way around.

I'd like to say yes, but the MINI has now become a mainstream "me too" or "look at me" car, and that is just plain out annoying. I'd probably go with something with an ecotec engine in it or an Evolution.
bought an 05 wrx modded the hell out of it. totalled 8 months later. then bought my 03 mcs British racing green
! I have to say I would rather have chose a mini in the first place! way better and would Crap all over my last car. never had problems with my mini the 14k I have had it. only car I would choose over my mcs would be an sti.

I am happy for those who has had no issues. I was on your side for about a year then problems started.
Just yesterday, my radio/cd went silent. Display works but no sound. Oh well another thing I can't afford to fix right now.

Now that I have discovered Minis, I will always have one...
Yes, they have some 'idiosyncrasies', but they are just too much fun to drive!!!
I've been a motorhead my entire life and have had some pretty exotic toys, but none of them put a bigger smile on my face than the Mini...

I have a love/hate relationship with my car. It's like an ex-gf that's awesome in the sack, but is entirely psycho anywhere else.
My solution is to get another car for daily driving and leave the MINI or buy something else as the summer/weekend car. I'm leaning towards getting an AP2 S2000 now.

We had an 02 MCS that we has some problems with. Loved the car but were really frustrated with the crappy service from the dealership. Got rid of it in '03 sometime I think. In hindsight we should have pushed for them to buy the car back.
One month ago I picked up an '06 MC with 5,000 miles on it. SO happy. I've got a '66 Cooper S as well - and in a year or two I am going to look for a JCW GP to add to the stable.
So... yes. Most definitely.

I have no issues with my MINI. My only issues are with BMW and their rediculous pricing of service and parts ..... and inability to test their cars for failures before selling to the public. Example .... melting turbo hood scoops. How can you test a new model release and not know about the the heat issue at the scoop?? Luckily I bought a nice used 2005 R50 which I consider to be a good year. NEVER buy a first year "all new features" vehicle!!
I love the one I have, so no, I probably wouldn't buy another one. I want this car to last forever and for my next car to be an M coupe to play with.
And to do it all over again - I would have taken a more serious and longer look at the RSX-S because of build quality and reliability (my MCS has given me no reason to question its reliability yet; its build quality (fit and finish) however...:impatient)

Ab-so-freakin-lutely! Never have I taken such pride and care of a car. Also, after eight years and 98,000 miles, it hasn't become outdated (ie: VW Bug and PT Cruiser) and I still get the rotating heads as I drive by. Not bad for $21k.
No. Our "03" has been and still is a a lot of fun to drive. But, since it has been out of warranty it has been very expensive to repair as parts fail. The dealer is 50 miles away, not as far as some owners have to travel but still a consideration. And our last reason for no is really do not like the New 2nd Generation Mini,s,
Absolutely Buy Again, BUT!
I bought my '02 Liquid Yellow MCS about 7 months ago. Wish I hadn't waited so long to buy one since I wanted one from the first time I saw one. The car is a blast to drive and great on gas, so YES I would buy another one, would love an '06 Checkmate.
One stipulation to my yes vote, if I didn't do all the work on my cars myself I would never buy one. The closest dealer to me is an hour and a half away and based on what I have read in forums the dealers are a pain to deal with and charge outragious prices. Buying parts online and doing the repairs/maintenance myself I figure saves me at least 75% over having a MINI dealer do the work.

I;m a little surprise by the frequency of the 'no's...
Of course the answer is the result of your experience, and a function of how many problems you have, which is often related to age/mileage.
It is kind of similar to my experience with BMW's in general - which I'm very happy with, but I try to get out of them by about 80-100kmi on the clock. (I don't drive alot of miles, so by then, the car is 10 years old anyway.)
I'm not a high mileage fan.

Yes (but only another R53
).
I have had a lot of fun cars (still have a Z4M) but needed something to commute to clients within a 6 hour driving window on interstate- the Mini fit the bill. I bought my '05 MCS with 109k on the odometer and after a few months of ownership it now has 122k. I have had to replace the power steering pump and have done a few other unnecessary. but "fun" mods and find this car to be as much fun as some of my past cars if not more so.

Meh, I think I got the MINI bug out of me. I wouldn't buy another one. My short experience with this one is negative enough that I'd even easily suggest to others that they NOT buy a MINI, new or used.
I love the zippiness and handling and style of the little guy, but IMHO, it's not worth it. It's not a trouble-free car. And it's not such a star stellar performance vehicle that these little irksome issues are easily forgiven.
In just a few short months of second-hand ownership, I'm running into the typical issues that seem to be common, oil leaks, howling "Chewbacca" transmission...if the car was easier to work on and fix, I wouldn't mind it so much. The parts that fail and need replacement are relatively cheap, but you need to take apart half the car to get to them.
I bought mine CPO, so I still get warranty work and occassionally, MINI swag. However, whenever I get MINI trinkets in the mail, they don't make me happy, they make me think they should've spent more money on testing and engineering, and less on marketing.

hahaahha I had a 92 Buick Regal that I drove more miles in and had 1 brake issue with it. It cost about 75 bucks to fix and it was becuase of user error. My Mini on the other hand.... well... power steering, suspension, a/c, navigation, exhaust, fans, and a plethora of noises later... lets just say that I will be doubling what I paid for the car in repairs only. And not to mention the high probability of the same "issues" happening again. I absolutely hate when people say "investment" when inquiring about a vehicle.
So in short, if I could go back, I would definitely not purchase a Mini. If anyone knows someone who wants this particular vehicle... well its cheap. please messege me.

Absolutely, maybe 2. I'm a Euro Gearhead, so only other options are Audi, BMW, and Mercedes, and they all have their own gambit of problems. It is a machine, it requires maintenance, haven't meet a car yet that doesn't.
True, however for the money these are cost, they shouldn't have this many problems. If my $11,000 off the showroom floor Suzuki Sidekick can endure 14 years and over 100k on the odometer, still have the original clutch, and just have to have routine maintenance done on it, there's no reason why a MINI that costs more than half of that should have so many problems. Yeah, all cars are man made and will have problems, you'd just think there would be a little more quality control involved.
