Hi everyone,

Just wondering how easily the "leather" scratches. I've read previously that several people have noticed tears and the like. That's kinda scary because I have a Jack Russell hankering for a ride when I get my MINI. I know I probably need to break down and get seat covers and have done with it, but can anyone shed anymore light on how fragile they are. I also have heard they're not real leather either - but more of a fancy plastic....

Thanks.

Not to sure about the Cooper but the Copper S has Leatherette as standard factory material as well as cloth, in other words, no extra charge. But the leather is obviously more.

I personally ordered mine with the Leatherette since I saw it in person and I liked it just fine and it pretty much looks like the leather ones, not exctly but close. Beats paying $1200, that's for sure.

If you plan on putting seat covers then there is no real point for the leather. Just get the cloth or leatherette and save the money for a few car payments.

I've got the leatherette and a Cairn Terrier and he hasn't managed to tear it yet. Don't know about the leather though.

Thanks. I might have to put the back seats down and attempt to keep Avery in the back, if that's possible. That might be the only solution without forking over the extra dough for seat covers (for the sole purpose of having my dog ride along, I don't think so). That's a bit extreme.

I probably should have gone with the leatherette.

I've got the lapis blue leather package and about 4000 miles... no scratches yet.

Thanks for responding. I guess I'm being a little paranoid. It's going to get scratches and dings since it's my primary car - but I'm definitely not going to be happy about them. I'm already upset and it hasn't arrived yet.

If it's any consolation, the leather sport seats appear to have adjustable lumbar support that neither the cloth or leatherette have. Also, I believe that if you are getting heated seats, those require leather.

I've been starting to lean towards the Cooper over the S (one more test drive needed to make a final decision.) The problem is, I'm totally in love with the lapis blue leather. Is it at all possible to convince a dealer to put the lapis blue into a Cooper, or is that totally non-negotiable. I suppose I could hunt around for someone to do it after market.

You can still get the leather and enjoy it. No need for eat covers.

Just put a towel on the seat (tuck it in where you can so it does not slide).

The company I work for makes something called The NEAT SHEET which is perfect to put under child seats, or under dogs.

Dogs love to motor shotgun!

A few observations:

I've got space cloth and bun warmers in my S. No need to kill cows for a toasty backside. Now, for shoes.... (j/k... sort of)

Towels over the seats! What ingenuity! I will definitely try that. Avery will be so happy!
