R50/53 New Mini owner...Maybe?
I'm considering unloading my Toyota Land Crusier for an S...now honestly, can I live with a Mini as my only car? I drive dozens of cars each year...am a TV producer who specializes in Auto-related documentaries for the Networks. (90 minute feature on this year's Baja 1000 race upcoming in theaters and on DirecTV) Please, give me the truth ...LOL

Nah. That is pretty good for a V8. Don't buy an S
thinking you'll get great gas mileage...I average
around 22. And welcome to MCOL....Sunday is a
slow day.
I'd drive one..try it..like I said...pretty roomy and more
fun than a barrel of monkeys!!

I drive Molly on a daily basis. I am a DINK (well, temporarily a SINK) - but I drove 2 Subaru wagons prior to this. (If you haven't used one, you'd be surprised at the amount of space they have.) Anyhow, except for a couple of times, I haven't been at a loss for space in the MINI. Those few times the wagon wouldn't have been any better - I needed an open pickup.
If you are at all concerned with gas mileage - consider the Cooper instead of the S. I recommend driving both anyhow!
If you want to get FUN out of driving as well as a good dose of practicality, you can't beat the MINI with a stick. (Well, you can - but then I'd have to hurt you!)
As 2minis says - go drive one, or two, or three!

The Cooper is my only car. I am also a DINK and it is the perfect car for us. If you had a kid to carry around I don't think you would want this as your only car. As far as carrying stuff, so far I've made everything fit. Drive one. . . you'll be hooked.

Am a dink...wife drives a new Forseter...and gas mileage...its not the money its the principal I'm beginning to think. OH, road tested a new Maserati last week, paddle shifters to boot, but couldn't live with it on a daily basis, so that's the question with the S...might have to order one...CT dealer says 6 months.

We are DINKS, (well, soon to have the little mutant comes into this world). However, hubby drives the MINI 26 miles each way to work daily and we drive it almost exclusively on the weekend errands. If it holds a month's worth of groceries (yes, we go that infrequently); a costco run; and a trip to Target or the like...I'm thinking we are ahead of the game. The boot holds a surprising amount of stuff; and flipping a single seat down, seems to take care of the rest of our normal needs.
The car is about the most fun you can have in the middle of the traffic, and still be legal. We've thought we might be giving something up in size for MINI; but the reality is, you really don't give up much space and get so much more.
If there wasn't a little one of the way, we'd probably be talking about becoming a two mini family.

Not everyone can have a MINI, and that's what makes us special.

Grettings DINKS and potential MINI buyer!
I am a AGINOI (Almost Graduate In Need Of Income) and my S suits me fine. Yeah yeah, "just a student", but living in at least two states at any given moment, I am required to carry alot of crap with me. Haven't had Ollie for very long, but he's got a few road trips under his belt and I've yet to feel cramped. He handles well, makes my friends smile wistfully (perhaps jealously?), and makes life otherwise frightfully enjoyable.
AND............... just to open up a debatable can of worms all over again.......
I get fabulous gas mileage. Hand computed highway driving at 39mpg. Less spectacular in city but hey, what's a girl to do? I still think it's good..... I mean, it'd drive circles around your tank, anyway
Do it! Do it! Love it! Love it!

>>Was that a yes? Does anyone here drive one on a daily basis...And Ok...if I watch it, I can milk 15 mpg out of my V8 ...is that bad?
I wouldn't be bragging about that. If I'm careful I can get 17+mpg out of my F350 crew cab.
As for driving, my wife and I put 1100 miles on ours over the weekend, no problem at all. My lower back is a bit stiff after all of that driving but I think that's more from the different position from the truck. No big problem at all.
