Adding 800 pounds to the car

Alright so i didn't realize how much weight i would be adding with all of my options ... I basically have the lot. nav, leather, all of it.. and i saw on the side panel that the car tops out at 3500 pounds.. WOW.. thats like adding four passengers. No wonder my car felt more sluggish under accel than the one i first test drove.. OH wells... that just gives me more reason to tune it.. ..

What the heck are you talking about???

The sunroof is 60 pounds tops, the NAV, may be a couple of pounds. Unless you have a V8 in there, your MCS can not possibly be more than 2,600-2,700 pounds TOPS.

Whatever is it that you are smoking, better quit it

That's not the car weight...

That's more like total rated weight with full load. And yes, it's slower when full.....

That's the GVW, or Gross Vehicle Weight. The weight of the car, it's options, all fluids, a full tank of gas, and the total passenger and cargo capacity weight added together.

I think he's confusing gross and net (tare) weight of the car that's written on the door panel.

If our MINIs weighed 3500lbs they'd be VWs or worse! Still, with a full tank and some passengers it's easy to get that 2670lb stock up to 3000. Mmmm, maybe a CSL would be nice...carbon fibre roof, bonnet, boot lid, fenders, no rear seats, no airconditioning, polycarbonate windows, smaller battery...
8-)

cheers,

That's what I think too - there won't be *much* weight difference between a stripped stock car (not one with a rear seat delete or whatnot) and a loaded one given that they have the same wheels/tires, gas, passenger weight, etc.

On a related note, I still have never heard of the comparible weight of the sunroof when you delete what the solid roof would have weighed in its stead (a real number vs conjecture).

I may be off on this .... but I've heard the sunroof weighs close to 250 lbs. That's one VERY heavy passenger riding on the roof!

Should've just added me as an accessory - at a mere 120lbs!

You're off on that. It's well under 100 pounds of weight added to the car.

I'm glad to hear that! Where does one find that kind of info anyway?

Well, a quick search yielded this:
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr.../0307scc_mini/

It seems like they are trying to be accurate with their quote of 53 pounds but further investigation (and a call or two to people who have replaced the sunroof) would get more certain facts. What I'd like to know is what the chunk of steel/lining it replaces in the roof weighs to get a real number that shows actual added weigh vs solid roof.

It's been debated for a while (i.e. years) here, but we recently had a fairly authoritative number; I just forget what it is. It's somewhere between 50 and 80 pounds of added weight (versus the weight of the solid roof). If you do a search you'll find more discussion on that here than you'd ever care to read.

yeh, 3500lbs is the weight of my G35C... MCS's are like 2800-3000 range,
i think.

still, it feels kinda slow at times.

And your function as an accessory? Seat warmer? Interactive Nav system?

it might be 250lbs. for the sunroof...but you have to remember you just can't add that weight to the car....as there is a roof up there already...you have to subtract the sunroof weight from an non sunroof roof weight, which puts you at about 60lbs difference

Both. AND cupholder!

You want with chrome or without? (disclaimer - added bling will increase weight)

Wow, cupholder too? What a deal! If you're anything like my 13 year old daughter, we could add "out of control remote radio operator" as well.
