I may have suffered the ultimate insult today. As I was waiting in my MINI at a local Sonic for my lunch, a beat up Toyota Corolla pulled up next to me. Being from Alabama, we have our share of true rednecks down here and I'm now sitting next to a 'Classic'. He really looks over the MINI, and then after he orders, backs his car enough to get out and taps on the window. I let the passenger windows down and he asks in the most country voice you'll ever hear says, "Is this one of them new Kias?".

I say no, it's a MINI. Then "What's a MINI?", "Who makes it?", "How much it cost?" Fortunately my lunch came about this time, and I was able to make a swift getaway. But before I could pull out, he told me he really like the front of the car. Said it looked a lot like a Volkswagen!

Seems strange that a redneck would be driving a Toyota...

I laugh when rednecks drive a Japanese truck with a big Confetti (or is that Confederate) flag hangin from the CB antenna. Idiots.

To add to that, here in Alabama, the rednecks driving Toyota trucks with Confed flags and (I think they're called) KC lights are running rampant and amuck everywhere. But they don't bother to even acknowledge my MINI. These guys are much too cool to be anamoured by such an unsightly little car, evidently.

YOUCH! When I was at the first Michigan MINI Motor Club meet, a random old guy pulled up and asked "are they made by Mercedes?" I think I should be considered lucky that the guy at least got the MINI's second engineering firm's country right

Jerry: Hopefully a Toyota Tundra with a confederate flag won't try to run you over

I might have said: "Sure, it's a Kia."

Like I have said all along: To keep the MINI a mystery to the pinheads around, just say "Yes" to their error...

I'm in no way knocking Alabama. I'm born here, raised here and proud to be from here. Have been all over the world and there's no place like Alabama, far as I'm concerned. And to add one more point. Alabama and the South by no means have a monopoly on rednecks. I've run into German rednecks, French rednecks, Austrailian rednecks, New York City rednecks and, yes even, California rednecks. Being a redneck doesn't connect anyone to a state , just a state of mind.

Just hope I never develop that state of mind.

And Charles, don't take offense because I'm from here also and damned proud of it!!!

When I used to live in Miami, there were even a few rednecks there!

more proof for Jerry's theory of Redneck being a state-of-mind and not location.

Up here in UPSTATE New York, we don't really call them rednecks, but hicks. Example: the other day I knew I was in Syracuse when I looked through the paper and there was this whole section on deer hunting, complete with pictures of dead deer and their proud killers!

I think you are confusing white trash with rednecks.

Hey WWWEbb:

Can you tell me the process/procedure/timeframe thing with CincinnMINI? Seems like I have to initiate conversations with Amy Childers for information. She's super nice...but, like, March is my production month w/delivery in April...AND, no word from her on anything. What did you go through?????
