First "ding" this morning...

No, this is not about a dent in the car. This morning I got the first "ding" this fall indicating that the temperature is 37 or below. It hit 37 and stayed steady, but winter is coming here in Ohio. Anybody else already have their first "ding" of the season? If so, when and where are you located?

Sorry to bore you. I was just curious. Usually if I find a thread that doesn't interest me I will just not respond to it.

im an entry-level PDR Tech. "ding" means more to me so your title excited
then content dissappointed me. nothing intended, just my reaction.

Got my first 'ding' of the season 4 days ago on my way to work in the am. Ahh, always reminds me that it's soon that time of the year in which I blow the leaves into my neighboors yard

Brrrrrrr!

--That's one feature I hope not to experience. Although I would like to take my Mini up to Haleakala (a.k.a. temple of the sun) Where it does hit low 40's in the early morning. But man us thin skinned Hawaiians would have the heater blasting at full on nights like that.

I got my first ding (here) this morning, but the first time was actually in Oregon in the second week of September!

I realize it actually shows 38, but this was just after the "ding"...

Les, when the temp hits 38, the MINI dings and flashes the temp to warn you of possible black ice conditions!

My 1st reaction is REALLY?!?!?!?! My 2nd reaction is WHY?!?!?! I guess it's so another German engineer can have a job! That ranks up there with rain sensing wipers! I don't "get" those either. I mean, can't you tell that it's raining (hint: wet stuff from the sky) and turn on the wipers yourself? If you can't do that you probably shouldn't be driving.

I got my first ding about 3 weeks ago.

Been down to -6C( 28F) here already, but has hit highs of 17C( mid 60s) here all week.

I know how cold it is out, but I do like to know if the temp. drops while I'm driving, black ice can form here from fog settling on the highway.

I live 160K(100 miles) north of the CND/US border. In one of the coldest places in North America, short of the Artic. -40C(-40F) happens every winter.

My MINI has no problems with it Well except for the bad tranny seal issue, but thats another thread

Many people would find it tough to turn the wiper switch with a cell phone in one hand, a BigMac in the other and a soda between their legs. Being ambidextrious only goes so far.

Well with unemployment rates in germany hovering around 12% maybe.....But, more likely is that it is a well thought of feature by those who drive the more than to the grocery store! If you have ever been on a trip in the MINI driving south to north just a few hours on the highway can change the climate dramatically! It is a great feature one I am gratefull to have!

Second, rain sensing wipers are also a great feature though now greatly overpriced......(they were a bargain in 02 and 03) for anyone who has driven in intermetent rain conditions

Is it annoying/distracting when the wipers kick on by themselves? Can u override this feature so it doesn't turn on when the car is idling (maybe going through a car wash)?

The automatic wiper mode only kicks in if you turn the wipers on. I agree with others that this is a nice feature... of all the gimmicky things as extras it's pretty nice, when you're changing speed in the rain or the rain is variable you can see the utility.

Here on the coast of CA in 18months of ownership I have yet to hear the ding... I can only imagine

I've noticed that mine will ding the first time it hits 37 degrees, but if it hovers in the 37-40 range it will just flash from then on (during that drive) when it hits 37. I like it.
