Give it up for the gas pedal

Oddly enough, one of my favorite features of my Mini S is the floor mounted gas petal. For most german cars, its pretty standard. On most American made and Japanese cars, the gas pedal hangs from the top and its real annoying. Something about the gas pedal being mounted from the floor really increases throttle control. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I thought of the exact same thing! Spooky It's handy on the track as well, from downshifting on turns, and getting back up I do notice the difference, but then again it could just be me Even the clutch pedal is nicer than some cars (in my opinion as well). On some clutch pedals you have to push it in all the way till you're leg is almost past straightend, but it's just perfect on the Mini for me (not because i'm short -- I'm 6 foot 1')

i like the gas pedal hinged from the top, if it is, it usually means it actually has a wire running to the carb ( or tb, depending on the car)

i still dont like the idea od having no physical connection between the pedal and the TB besides some electical crap.

theres no feeling like the feeling when you mash the pedal to the floor and you can feel the secondarys go wide open!

Well, floor mounted really doesn't have anything to do with it being drive-by-wire.

I guess I like the floor mount a little better, but really miss having a throttle cable.

i didn't like it much at first because i was use to the traditional gas pedal
and the traditional clutch pedal height from the floor.

the MCS's organ pedal (as I call it) is pretty annoying when you try to do the
traditional style heel and toe... i have to do the cheater style on this setup.

on traditional pedals, i can do both the cheater style (for low speeds) and
the regular heel and toe (for faster speeds).

but i got use to the MCS though. it's ok, im probably going to get a M3
next, so had to get use to it anyway. better sooner than later.

Well, I have not driven enough cars to actually know the difference between the two pedals. I just don't like the delay in the throttle on the MINI's pedal..

blipping the accelerator

I'm new to stick driving, but I was trying to blip the accelerator when downshifting. (Not heel-toe, just downshifting without the brake.) I, too, find quite a lag -- or at least I have to push the pedal quite far before the revs come up. But this can't be due to the floor mount, right? It must be because the computer doesn't directly translate my blip to the engine.

Or, I could be blipping wrong. I'm not sure. But I know I don't like my downshifting yet.

It took alot of getting used to going from an SRT-4 to the Mini. Not only is the gas pedal "backwards" but the mini's pedals are MUCH smaller than the SRT's. And the clutch travel on the Mini is much shorter too. At first I hated it, but the more I use it the more I like it. Still doesn't have the sharpness of the SRT's throttle cable though.

We should proclaim this as international gas pedal day. Everyone get out there and use those gas pedals. Come on what are you doing still in front of that computer. GO MOTOR.

Rev matching in my jetta is horrendous!!! In my brothers MCS, or EVO or the other brothers WRX i can rev match perfectly and heel toe perfectly but in the jetta it is a P.I.T.A.! When learning to rev match dont let the clutch out until you know exactly where the thottle is rather than just assuming okay i blipped the throttle so it must be good, pretty soon you will get quicker and quicker until it is effortless!

Up or down, it's still drive-by-wire. That doesn't bother me but the idea that there is a "black box" recording my speed all the time.....To the best of my knowledge (admittedly limited), all drive-by-wire systems have this "snitch box". The lawyers and insurance companies love it.

Cheers

The gas pedal is now a potenteometer. It has no linkage since the throttle is driven by an electrical signal. My vette is the same way as is the honda accord.

Heel/toe at higher rpms. Above 3k, the response is quite good. Even better when you have a 12# flywheel:smile:
