Is it drilled into bumper? Does it mount through the grill???

Look closely towards the middle of the front bumper and you will see 2 small holes. That's where it mounts!

On the S (at least) you can easily mount it on the lower grill. I did this and have had no overheating problems (in Dallas no less) including all summer.

I'll find / post the link to a thread where we discussed this and had pics, etc.

I had mine drilled on at the dealer while taking delivery. Other people cringe when they see it, but it's the law in CA, and since I'm getting a vanity plate I don't really mind too much. My MINI is beautiful front plate holder and all!

 

My 05-S came with the license plate holder installed. I took it off so If you look closely at the photo, you can see the two holes.

 

It sounds really hard to him.... ouch.
Some people just tide it on the front grill.. But that may reduce some cooling factor.
