Greetings from balad, Iraq

Just thought I would chime in and say that the conversation on the forum lately has got me missing my 2003 MCS LY/BLK, all 3 pkgs (16,500 miles)
I am Active Duty Air Force serving proudly over here in Iraq. I'll be serving here throughout the holday season to return early next year.

I'd just like to say that the forums help me "get away" even for a just a moment. At times I find myself dreaming the beast I drive over here is a MINI, but no chance.

Keep up the great conversation and I'll return safe and sound to Motor On soon enough.

Take care from Iraq

I'm sure it takes A LOT of imagination to visualize that what you're driving there is, in fact, your MINI!! Be safe, you crazy MINIac...your MCS will be waiting for your return and will no doubt be anxious to hit the twisties w/ its rightful owner behind the wheel!! Thank you for what you do each day.

Stay Strong. Stay Safe. And remember a Hummer will tip over in a heartbeat if it's uparmored.

Whereabouts is Balad? I don't recall hearing about it in the news... which is probably a good thing!

Stay safe!

All the best guys! Let us know if you need someone to drive your car around and blow the soot out of it once in a while!

Here's some info on balad airbase and balad: http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...q/balad-ab.htm

Kramseib,

Good to hear from folks that are out there in Iraq! I was in Balad back when 4th ID rolled in on the first rotation. It was my second run in the Middle East (Desert Shield/Storm) and then as a contractor with 4th. From the looks of it, they have really built the place up. That is good to see.

Be safe and when you get back to Germany, well have to do some motoring!

You guys keep your heads down. As a Submariner, I can't even imagine how bad your living conditions must be.

Just think about how great your minis will feel when you get back...

On a side note:
Do you guys know the diferent definitions of "Secure" when it comes to the branches of the Military?
-In the Navy "Secure" means to stop doing something
-In the Marines it means to shut something down
-In the Army it means take control of an area and post a guard
-In the Air Force "Secure" means 2 year lease with an optin to buy

Take care.

Disabled Speed Control? Depends on whos Humvee you are driving!

My Hummer would do well over 90 when I was there.
