New Cooper or used S ???

I am going to mini of Pgh this Sat and am not sure which way to go. They should have a couple 2002 and 2003 used S models. These are going to be about the same price as a new '06 Cooper that I spec'd out. I am not sure which way to go and need any thoughts anyone may have please. I know the 06 will have the improved transmission but other than that I am confused.

Thanks for the suggestions.

oh, the used ones have about 20 - 25k on them and will be about $21k

Well, i bought an 05 MC in january. I drove it till this past tuseday and i was seduced my the DR/W S in Classics Showroom. Its an 04 and i got it for a tad under 18K with 32k miles on the clock.

I would go for the Used S. If i had to make the decision again, i would have just bought one of the various used S's that Classic had the time i ordered my MC. I would have had more time motoring.

Call around, classic still had a DS/DS 03 S with an aero kit for 22 sitting inside, and i bet they would take a lot off, its been sitting inside for way too long, its bound to go to auction soon enuff!

i say get yourself a brand spanking new cooper. i used to have an 04 cooper s and now have an 05 cooper. i like the cooper abit more. and it is speced to my liking. fully loaded. with these gas prices (getting higher every day) i am LOVING the mileage i am getting (35.6 MPG on my computer) and the car drives and handles like a dream. also the new gearing makes the cooper a VERY VERY peppy car. in fact after 25000 miles the engine has opened up and really pulls when you hit the gas. I LOVE IT. i thought i wanted a cooper s again and tracked down one of the last 2005 jet black cooper s. i was just about to trade in my cooper and get the s and then realized that i really wanted to keep my cooper.

if you do go for the s i would not ever consider anything older than an 04. but get yourself a cooper and order it just the way you want. there is nothing like the feeling of knowing you put the first 100 miles on your own car.

Check this auction out...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Still two days out and I know he is showing car tomorrow off this auction ad. Might be something good...

I can't buy one used... wifey says to get new so I'm letting her twist my arm on a MCS... (hehehe) Can't wait! If only I could sneak another $6300 to the dealer for the JCW!

Although I am an S owner, I should agree, get an MC, drive it for 2 years, while your car is holding value, check the new turbo 2007 MCS, and upgrade it if you wish. That's what I would do.

Go for a brand new one... If a used one cost you $21k, why not go for a strip down brand new MCS, almost the same price and give you a good night sleep for 4 yrs.

Here in Utah we have zero selection of Mini's, new or used. I like the Getrag transmission, the JCW installed at the factory, and the LSD. Those are my main reasons for getting the '06. Not to mention used one's tend to sell close to the cost of a new one and I figure I might as well get what I want. Just my thoughts...

Depends if you want the power of the S.

Get a new cooper but always day dream about having more power = bad!

For me, I don't see the need for more power, all I need to do is rev my Cooper up to red line twice and I'm over the speed limit anywhere inside the city. Besides, with the great handling of the MINI, I never slow down for corners. That means I never have to speed up after I take a corner, so I don't need more power

Oh, 34mpg revving it to the redline all the time rocks too
