Need help picking a name...

(mods - I'm sure there is a thread about this already, however, searching for "name" in the title of the message yielded no search results, as the search engine will not use the word "name". If you want to merge this thread, I'd be plenty happy.)

I figured I'd know after a month of ownership - nah. I'd like to figure out a name for my MINI. I'm leaning towards "Entropy," but my MINI isn't an "s" which is the symbol for Entropy. I could call it massspeedoflight, but that'd be a bit too literal. Or figure the units out,

(kg * m)/s
so...

kilogramsmeterspersecond

See? Having some trouble here.

John

Here's the deal. Some people come up with all kinds of neat names ... whatever they like. However, been there, done that. My wife QUICKLY named the car (she names all cars). The MINI didn't like it. She (the car) told me so. So, I retracted her name.

My theory is that the car has to TELL you her name. After all, how would you like it if some strangers named you? Ever notice that people who don't like their first names use their middle names that they picked.

So give it some time. Let her or him tell you when they are ready. When its time, you'll know.

BTW, SHE hasn't told me her name yet. I know she LOVES bling and I know she likes to had new bits and pieces added all the time so ... I'm still waiting for her to let me know.

I have found a couple of old threads on names but nothing current. I named my first Mini Roxanne because she was red and shortly after I got her headlight went out, so I thought of the song "Roxanne" you don’t have to put on the red light. She was a 1988 Red Hot edition. My Current MINI is named Bumble because she is Liquid Yellow/Black roof and bonnet stripes, and the first thing the neighbor said when I drove it home was it looked like a Bumble bee coming down the road.

Both of the names just kinda happened. I knew from the start that they were girls. So you have to find out what the car wants to be named. I also have a KIA Sorento named Melissa because my oldest stepdaughter(6 at the time) said she looked like a Melissa out of the blue one day.
Hope that helps.

For some reason, reading your post made me think of the name "Angelica" from Rugrats. Little spoiled brat

The Short Bus is cute and all, and everyone makes a nickname from that "SB" "Shortie-B" or simply "Bus" but i want a name for mine too

I could suggest "Mr. Magoo", but you would have to be old enough to remember him, and it's already taken...

Hmm, gave this one some thought. Like the direction! Not too sure about the name...

As for you SB, how about "Super MINI"? You could even make a little flying MINI with a red (black?) cape for your sig... You could be the MINIs sidekick. "Will Short Bus and Super MINI get out of the evil VW trap? Will the Miata ever be saved? Tune in next time..." etc...

It really would work better on a CR Cooper as RedShift - moving away at high speed......oh well

I've had my MINI almost three years and it still has no name. It seems quite happy with the prospect of being nameless, responsing quite gleefully to just "the MINI." I did tell my friends in a careless moment that my MINI is like a puppy that pants and wags its tail at the prospect of motoring. Sideways glances and expressions of fright fell on their faces... so I dropped the subject.

My MINI is also without a name. I've only had her since July though... I'm happy to just say "Are you ready to go MINI?" or "Let's go MINI". So, maybe MINI is her name... Poor thing.

Sticking with the physics theme, how about just "c"? That's small c - as in the speed of light. Or, since the car corners like a mother, how about "mu"? That's the symbol for the coefficient of friction in most conventions/formulas. Or would that just slow you down?

No no no, friction is 100% necessary, and very important with tires. Otherwise, they'd just spin in place.

I could even go science fictiony. Some guy had the license plate "Tachyon."

So many choices. I'll crack open my Thermo book (oh, I've got homework tonight, ugh) and take a look at the various things available (though I like the idea of a Greek symbol...).
