MC Power Enhancements via Bimmer

i have ordered a few backissues of Bimmer magazine to catch up on past reviews and info regarding the MC/MCS.

the april 2003 issue has a great review of modifying a stock MC.

stock dyno showed 101.1 ft/lbs, 108.2 HP
Admax Oil - 101.8/108.6
Mini Mania drop in air filter - 102.8/107.6
Magnecors spark plugs - 102.8/107.8.
Rogue Engineering Exhaust - no change
Mini Mania exhast - 105.0/110.4 (gains across all rpms)
Helix Exhaust system - 104.1/111.1

strange, unless power changed from 02-05, the MC is rated at 115 HP stock. i dont think there would only a 5 HP drivetrain loss, did they change HP from 02-05?

actually they commented they were surprised

at such a small loss from the 115hp at the crank. they postulated its either underated or does not experience the customary 15% loss through the drivetrain.

hmm.....thats odd...worth looking into.

somehow i cant believe there wouldnt be a 15% loss, unless FWD cars simply dont lose as much vs a AWD or RWD car.

probably under rated. bmw is know to

report 0-60s conservatively. i wouldn't be surprised if the 115 was also conservative.

When GRM tested a new MC a few years back they got 109hp at the rear wheels.

How do you order the back issues? What issues did you find relevant?

easy

http://www.bimmer-mag.com/

click backissues. i ordered 6 or 7 (almost all that mentioned mini). $4 each. no shipping. they came in about 3 days. lots of fun bimmer and mini reading!

roundel also has a few good articles, bmwccca.org. you may have to email a request for backissue index.

So the drop-in filter actually dropped torque? Any idea why? I was considering an ITG drop-in, but gaining a little HP at the expense of a little torque doesn't sound like a good deal to me

Just imagine what they could have gotten at the front wheels.

I'm more concerned with how they got anything at the rear wheels. MC's are front wheel drive

DOH! I checked the mag again and they said 109hp "at the wheels" so it's all on me.

It's OK, I'll survive....
