>>OK everyone - how come I don't see the one thing I think REALLY needs some serious improvement (for us in hot weather).
>>
>>1. AN A/C that actually cools the car off in less than 45 minutes in the heat.
>>The A/C SUCKS in this car - worst I've ever had.
>>
>>2. How about a RENTAL or LOANER when the service dept has to keep it overnight?????
>>
>>I agree on most of the other stuff you guys are saying too.
>>
>>Love my Mini though.
>>

Hmmm, I actually think the AC worked well last summer for me. My car is Black!

What I really don't like is the heater. It takes a full 20 minutes to get warmed up and comfortable - and this is driving, not sitting. Air distribution of heat is not very good. I've said before that I've owned 70's BMW's that had far superior heaters. My old 5-series is warm in half the time and distributes the heat very well. It's not engine size either - my friend's Civic with a 1.5 has better heat.

Auto closing window. In the US I believe this is a safety issue. Think small child or the family dog. Now pretend they (child and dog) are looking or hanging out the window, and a driver not paying attention. Well I'll just stop there. This happened several years ago with early express up windows. If you are in the US talk to your congress person. Fact or the ramblings of an old man you chose.

Motor on

1) arm rest/console
2) place to put cell phone (in console - like on Accords?)
3) bigger visors
4) DVD based nav system - although it sounds like they may have already started that
5) bigger cup holders not blocked by toggle switches
6) put a toggle switch in the blank spot! My original brochure showed one (I think) for the PDC, but when I got the car the dealer told me it can't be turned off/on
7) fir the IR rain sensor - it doesn't go on automatically each time - you have to turn it off/on to restart it

Just dredging up an old thread once again... I'm interested to know if anything that people have mentioned here has actually made it into the 2004s; I think not. The one I agree with the most is from jsun:
___________________________
>>REDESIGN the door pockets (inside the elipse) so that when you're foolish enough to put something in there you can a) get it back out; b) things don't slide around in there.
>>
>>The sliding problem would be solved by lining the bottom of the pocket with a slightly rubbery material. The "getting things out" problem will require significant re-design of the elipse/door pull/"arm rest." I've found that CD cases are absolutely the worst. It's like a one-way box magic trick...and DEFINITELY don't try to remove something while driving as it's just about impossible without using 2 hands. (and I'm left handed...so I'd think I'd be more coordianated trying to manipulate things in the driver's door pocket than most right-handed drivers of US-spec cars).
___________________________

The design of the doors is SO BAD! It's the one huge problem I have with the car, besides disappointing fuel economy. The design makes the pockets almost totally useless. Once you have a couple of maps and maybe a box of Altoids in there, forget about using it for anything else. Not that anything larger would fit, anyway... I can't even say "form over function" because I think the form is ugly, too. The doors are tacky and overstyled in a very Beetle-ish way.

The other thing I'd love to see is a keyhole on the passenger side door, and on the boot. Why not? And auto-up windows, of course. BMW left out some weird things when designing this car, especially considering that they were fairly extravagant with the rear suspension.

Seat bottoms that can be angled independently of the height adjustment. Even airport rentals have this feature.

More support under the lumbar bulge. There is 3" of nothing from here to the seat cushion for lower back support. (I have leatherette sport seats)

Everything else is fine.

Regards,
Red

There is adjustable lower lumbar with the leather seats. I think it's only with the leather, although it's not quite as low as you described.

Love my MCS, but would like the following:
1. Overhead sun glass storage
2. More shift *** options- How about an all leather or at least mostly leather.
3. Larger seat back pockets. (large enough to hold a street atlas)
4. Bigger sunvisors
5. Bigger rear view mirror
6. Radar absorbing paint.

>>I think it would be a service to “MINIUSA” if the members of 'MINICooperOnline" would give suggestions to improve the MINI to the manufacture. Thanks for your comments.

I may be late on this (I didn't read all four pages) but, when I first got my MINI S I sent an e-mail to MINIUSA and told them I would like a garage door opener in the visor like my Lexus and Volvo. Volvo has three different buttons for three different doors. Also, I want automatic headlights. I thought all cars had them. shows you what i know (or don't know).

My Volvo has auto up windows and i think my Lexus did. You can stop them with you hand and they would go back down before chocking a child.

Ear.

dnvrmini - do you have the automatic climate control? My A/C cools the car extremely quickly even in a North Carolina summer and heats the car up within a mile or two even in 20F degree weather. If so, take it to the dealer as I can say from first hand experience that something is wrong.

Good Luck!

Adjustable lumbar support in something besides the $1300 leather seat option.

Be sure to post on NAM when the Auto Up Window Module is commercially available and cost. Could be a profitable item.

As chrisnl did back in 11-25-2003, I'm dredging up this old thread... Can't we tell MINIUSA what we would like in the MINI for 2005. Hey, we can voice our opinions!
