While I know some won't agree with my calling it "giving it up" - I gave up a '93 Subaru Legacy Sedan for my '02 Cooper. I planned to keep the Subie as my winter car - but was subsequently unemployed and needed the cash - so I ended up having to sell the Subaru. Great little car. Low miles, very little rust. The new owner is still quite happy with it. Good for him.
Bad for me.
Well, then I gave up my '02 and bought a '92 Ford Ranger. Yup. You read that right. Now, however, I'm keeping the Ranger for my winter vehicle and have my '05 Cooper S!
Great thread - one of the few that I don't recall as being a repeat.... but I imagine someone will have to prove me wrong.

I gave up driving my 71 Beetle. However I still own it. Wife's mad because the MCS and the VW are both in the garage, while her car sits in the driveway.
I suppose I'll sell the VW sometime soon though. I never drive it anymore.

I gave up a 2000 Silverado....I had put 20 inch KMC Condor wheels on it, LED tails, HID headlights, Sony LCD head unit, Denali dash, chrome grille surround...I sure do miss it, but it's still in my hometown, the new owner really loves it, so it's being well cared for.
We gave up a house payment.
We held off ordering until our house was paid off. That's why things like JCW and some of the other goodies were not such an issue to us. It felt nice to order exactly what we wanted in a car for the first time. All previous vehicles had some compromises built into them.

I gave up the straight line accelleration of my modified 2001 VW GTI 1.8t for the sweet handling of my MCS. Never looked back and never regretted it!
I got a 2001 Mercedes C230 V6 sitting in the garage... but I like driving the mini!! No it isn't my car but It is my dad's and I have a set of keys and can take it out anytime I want...good car but not better than a mini... IMHO

well my dad got rid of my 91 mazda 929s which was a beast of a car. The car lacked anti-roll beams and would completely fall over itself around turns, but was my first car. It was rear wheel drive which made it fun in the rain and snow, relatively powerful 190 horsepower V6 and was my first car... When my mom got my dad the mini for christmas i kinda kept borrowing it and now call it my own. the handling is in another world and so is the power...
Give up?
hmm
hmm
- Sleeping through the night because its better to wake up at 2 AM and look down from the upstairs window on the roof of the MINI
- Quake3 ... never get to play on-line games anymore, too much time looking for new toys
- Free from anxiety ... too nervous waiting for the next new toy to arrive
- Spare time (that is now used for waxing)
I gave up buying a Black Acura NSX. I wanted to track prep it with a Comptech or maybe a Basch supercharger (although I've heard mixed things about the reliability of that particlular component Mark Basch makes), do some Science of Speed bits and so on.
Why?
The wife REALLY wanted a MINI. So, in the spirit of compromise for the greater good of my relationship, I talked myself out of the NSX (well almost...) and embraced the Cooper in a way I hadn't planned. So I now vent my "car nut" bug on the Cooper.
Also, I'm gonna buy a 125cc Shifter Kart to get my racing itch scratched. But I haven't yet.

 I gave up my first Cooper as a trade-in for Wanda. Added her to our "fleet" of an '88 Isuzu Trooper (art hauler) and hubby's '91 Corvette. Still grinning and motoring happily!

Gettin' rid of my 97 S10. Giving up eating out except for once a week for lunch and dinner. Literally sacrificing scuba diving. That's the hard one to give up. Cutting way back on buying as many cigars. And I've actually started using coupons & "shoppers" cards for groceries. All of the savings and money going to the downpayment on Icarus. Well, all except that nice chunk I donated to the Red Cross and there's no way that can be called a sacrifice. It's a gift!
What I gave up for my Cooper...
- Paying $75 to fill up the tank of my Chevy Avalanche and having it last only a week (pre gouging of fuel prices)
- Filling up the tank every week
- Taking turns at reduced speeds
- Applying my brakes way early
- Seeing over the tops of every other vehicle on the road
- Using my vehicle for hauling things
- Using my vehicle for towing things
- The extra 3 hours it took to wash, vacuume and wax my vehicle each week
- Watching DVD's while driving
- Taking up the whole driveway when I parked my car on it
- Sedate drives to work
