I haven't seen any MINI cop cars around here (in Detroit). This does not mean that there are none, since Detroit-Metro area is HUGE. Somehow I doubt the whole rumor though. Cops usually stick to buying american-brand cars (especially around here).

But that Miata was a DARE car, somebody donated it to them, it was never used for any actual patrols. Unlike the 'vette they used for speed enforcement on the Turnpike in Palm Beach County. There was a blurb about the Miata on FHP's website a few years back.

Here's one of a Polizei car. Now, that's sweet: www.hufgefluester.de/Lokalpresse/2002/Polizei02/polmini.jpg

I saw a picture of a California Highway Patrol car that was sweet. www.bmwm5.com/greg/sf_02_carshow/images/mini_chp_800.jpg I know that it's been posted on this board before... a few months back. It was at the SF Auto Show, I believe.

Yet another reason to avoid riding in the back seat of a police car.

Now this is a proper looking Black & White! Exactly what I would envision one should look like. I notice the red/blue lights on the rearview, very cool. I think the only thing I would add is an old fashioned "bubble gum machine" (light) on top.

Is that a real working SFPD patrol car, or just a "novelty conversion"?
Either way it looks really cool...

They'd have to have some sort of periscope-style extension to put the flashing lights on. Otherwise the Expedition and H2 drivers would never see the lights in the rearview mirror...

And while they're at it, hook up the tack spray or oil slick to the blank toggle.

I found the the pic on a mini2 thread about a recent North American auto show. The person who took the shot I believe said it was on display there, in the SFPD section and not with the other mini's. I don't think the car is in comission, as I have many friends living in and around SF and none of them have ever mentioned seeing any mini cops. It's too bad though, cus this car sure looks a lot cuter than the mustang 3.0's they were useing last time I was there.

I really doubt any US police departments would use MINIs as squad cars. They just aren't practical, plus most (all?) police use American-made cars.

While I wouldn't expect that car to be used as a patrol vehicle, the cops do use a lot of cars with a high "cool" factor for use in the DARE program, and for other outreach programs where impressing kids is helpful.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of those.

That California Highway Patrol MINI was done for the San Francisco Auto Show by MINI of San Francisco last fall. It is a black Cooper with large CHP decals and isn't a real cruiser.
