Help! New Hood(bonnet) Needed Asap

Ran into the back end of a small SUV hitting the tire on back door and crushing my hood dead center(right at point of air intake). Good thing the idiot woman driving decided not to move at a GREEN LIGHT. No time to stop after letting out the clutch. Anyway I'm debating between a stock hood or carbon fiber. What's cheaper? Needed immediately.

Thanks,

Sorry about your hood, but surely you're not blaming the "idiot woman" for this. IT'S YOUR FAULT. You should have been watching the car in front of you for your cue to move, not the light.

Sorry, I just have a pet peeve about people not taking responsibility for their OWN actions.

Sorry for your loss . Wanna do the carbon option for me?

You buy my hood and I'll get the carbon bonnet

I totally agree with you. And so would any insurance company & police department. The person that rear ends someone is always at fault.

I agree with you for the most part and in the eyes of the law that is true. However, real life, there are cases where I wish it wasn't. Examples:

1. Cars with broken break lights.
2. Many years ago a friend of mine nearly got killed when he rear ended a car that was stopped on the freeway in the #2 lane. At night with all the lights off. His insurance company actually paid off the 2 people in the car he hit. Hardly seems fair.

[/hijack over]

Sorry, no help on the hood.

Go CF! Not much difference in price, if you're doing a replacement.

1) Broken brake lights is a tough call, but I think it would depend on the situation. If the original poster was at a stoplight behind this woman and she just didn't go when the light turned green, I'd say he was still totally at fault even if all of her brake lights were broken. There's no way he should have moved until she did.

2) The only time I've ever heard of an insurance company not finding the "hitter" 100% at fault was an instance where the car in front slammed on their brakes to avoid hitting an animal. They assigned the fault at 50/50. Your example does sound rather unfair.

I'm sorry, but who's the idiot here?

I was rear ended at a light in June '04 because the mini-van driver behind me was watching the light and not me or the people still crossing in the crosswalk directly in front of me, or my brand new Honda Civic Hybrid! She was in a hurry and when the light turned green she stomped the gas pedal and banged into me! So, by your standards I would be an idiot because I just didn't go as soon as the light turned green! Screw the people in the cross walk. At traffic lights you have to have patience and still look around.

You're the one at fault here and should re-evaluate who the real idiot is and hopefully become a better driver.

I think you folks forgot what his question was about. Be it the fact that he called the lady an idiot, he just wants to know which hood he should get, he is trying to make the best of a bad situation and y'all aren't helping.

My opinion, go with Carbon fiber, sweet look with not much of a price difference and of course the wieght loss.

Nope, I know what his question was about and maybe he would have gotten a straight up answer has he not posted his accident story with it.

My advice... go with what you can afford and avoid debt, and also become a better driver and avoid having to buy new parts altogether.

I assume thats unpainted. Plus all kind of little pieces that will add up quick if you need the mounting pieces.

Question was in regards to hood being damaged!

I call her an idiot because she WAS ON THE PHONE AND NOT PAYING ATTENTION. i was paying attention and by the time I pushed the clutch back in, crunch. Everyone around us was moving and she was off the brake lights. I assume some of the fault and will not be close to ANYONE IN THE FUTURE, but THESE f-----g yentas are pissing me off. Traffic needs to keep moving. I own a delivery company and drive all over the DC metro area every day. I'VE HAD IT WITH THESE A--HOLES. Nobody seems to care. I see bad accidents happen everyday and people being carted away.

Ranting helps me relieve the situation. I don't need driving advice. I race on the track not the street.

I'm having Zamora's in Rockville do the work. Highly recommended in the area. I'm buying the A/C condenser, radiator and the support to save some cash. They're doing the hood, paint and all. Leaving the stripes off for now. Carbon is about $650 w/shipping. Stock hood will run 359+paint & all.
Bumper and rest were untouched.
I'm paying out of pocket, THAT'S WHY I'M PISSED.

Sorry bud, but you posted the accident info.

She may indeed be an idiot,
She may indeed have been on the phone,
She may indeed have not been paying attention,
She may have taken her foot off the brake,
She may even be an a-hole yenta.

But it's still your fault. Not "some". 100%.

It does suck, but no matter what sort of idiotic things she was doing, you hit her. Whether the light was green and everyone else around you was moving or not, you shouldn't have even moved until she did. That's just the way it is.

If you didn't want comments on the accident, you shouldn't have provided the details.

While it is completey stupid that he hit her, albeit understandable in my opinion, a reaction I have had before without hitting anyone, I would like to point out the lady was BREAKING the law, driving while talking on a cell in DC is illegal, and in my opinion should result in license revocation in every state(hands free or not). I don't appreciate self absorbed nitwits endangering my life or causing undo economic drain on my country and it's transportation system through their irresponsible behavior. While you're in your car driving is your sole responsibility, you're operating a deadly machine, not a mere mode of transport. At least he has learned from his mistake, while the lady will keep chatting away instead of concentrating on the task at hand, the fact no one even addresses this is the sad part.

If you're gonna go, go all the way, make it carbon fiber.

P.S. next time use the horn, and equip your mini with a cell phone jammer, illegal but effective.

.
it's only illegal in dc if she wasn't using a handsfree device.

from the description, it's not clear if he whacked the other vehicle in dc, maryland, or va.

(afaik, handsfree devices are not required in md or va)

LOL. You're the one who said "I assume some of the fault and will not be close to ANYONE IN THE FUTURE".

I may be a ****, but at least I wait until the vehicle in front of me moves before I try to occupy their space.

And for the record - if we ever get to vote on whether driving while cell phone talking should be illegal, I'll be first in line. Hands-free makes zero difference. It's an issue of distraction and lack of focus, not one of keeping both hands on the wheel.

First road rage....now website rage.

Take a deep breath and relax, being the only non-idiot driver around is a tough job.

The reality of any story depends on where you were...

A guy in my office was rear ended stuck on an on ramp. About four cars in front had stopped and he was waiting for about 10 seconds. He looks in the rearview mirror and sees a car coming straight at him not slowing down at all. The driver was on the cell phone. The guy from my office honks his horn and puts two feet on the brakes to try and stop from slamming into the car infront of him on impact. The cell phone driver is too late and plows into him.
As it happens I know the kid that hit him because I know the parents. He was actually talking on the phone to his mother at the time of impact. The boy's story was quite different. He told his parents he was motoring along when all of a sudden, out of the blue, the car in front of him stops dead. Well of course the family car plows right into this car. What could he do? The mother is sympathic the fathers says he's a liar. He was charged with careless driving which is about the worst he could get. Two very different perspectives.
