R50/53 Going to the Car Wash??
I work for a car wash company and didn't have any problems pushing my S through any of them, brush or brushless. Just make sure that you remove the antenna and that it fits in the track. some car wash tracks are pretty high, so you might have clearance problems.
I would recommend using the do-it-yourself pressure hose/wand car washes. Yeah, ya have to get out and do it yourself. But at least your car isn't getting whipped by nylon strands.
And like 2minis stated. Watch out for the ones where the car rides on a track through the bay. Haven't tried the MCS on one, nor will I ever. But have seen some others have problems getting stuck and have damage done to their cars. There's some touchless washes out there where you just drive through the bay fitted with high pressure sprayers. Check your area for what's available. I always use the do-it-yourself bays when the weather is cold. Otherwise I use good old fashioned elbow grease, and wash my baby in the driveway.
Cheers,

I am for the hand washing. Not matter how you slice it the car wash that touch the car will leave small minor scratches on the clear coat. I had a black car and was told it would not hurt the car and after a few washes you could see the scratches.
So it is gently hand washing for me.

If I can't handwash, then I will only use the touchless automatics. I will not use the DIYs on this car because those Nylon-bristle brushes are just as bad as the nylon strands in the "fricition" car washes.
I would use the sprayer/wand at the DIY, but NEVER that brush!

In a post a while back someone mentioned that a car wash brush had pulled the spoiler off their MINI. This sounded somewhat unlikely to me, but I guess it could happen.
It gave me cause for concern, anyway, so I've only used brushless since delivery in November.

>>The Cooper I had scraped on the track rail at a local carwash

I think that you may need to turn off the DSC if you have it! That happened to me...I never really thought of it, but I THINK it was the DSC. I just go through my friendly LaserWash now. Drive in, touchless, trackless...no probs!

I saw a brush type car wash that went completely nuts and the arm on the passengers side broke and smashed the windows, broke the mirror off and dented the side the car. I was waiting to enter and saw the whole thing. The guy got his car of the wash and went to office and I followed as a witness. The clerk told the guy they were not responsible for any damage and that they have a sign outside explain that. The car owner stated this was beyond damge, his car was wrecked worse that being hit by a car. So to make this long story short it took the guy more than six months to get the car wash to accept responsiblity and pay for the damage to the car. His insurance fixed the car pretty quickly but the lawsuit alot longer.
Ouch. That almost makes me nervous to go into any carwash with moving parts!
