What changes (other than cosmetic) for '06

I was wondering if anyone knows what changes are occurring in the '06, besides the cosmetic and JCW changes. Like, are any internal engine or suspension components changing? Car companies usually make changes in the last year of a generation, and i was wondering if anyone had heard of any...

ALSO, when will the cut off date be for ordering an '05...

THANKS!

Ryan

The 'cut off' as you put it does not have a direct relation to order date. Model years have always changed over in September (of the current model year). ...So, 06 production will start some time in Sept 05. Dealer can tell you which "buld week" will be 06 production.

That might well be... we're past mid-August (quite late in current the model year) changes to existing production or new orders might be impossible.

Most dealers have cars on order in advance need. Don't know what the cut off is for finalizing orders, but if it's not already past we've got to be close. It all depends on allocation, production sched. & build wk. Some dealers have cars on order, which are slated to be produced in later build weeks than others.

FWIW MCS's have been in short supply all summer. Production may have been completely spoken for (already). Don't know about MC's.

05 vs. 06

--The period to order an 05 is over in Honolulu. If I were you I'd go down to your dealer and find out NOW. Especially if you want a Jet Black one. There is no such animal in the 06 stable.

Um my SA said that there is no mechanical difference in the 06 model from the 05. There IS supposed to be a limited production run of 2000 light wieght editions coming out in 06 though. But from what they've been telling us about it, it doesn't sound U.S. legal. The price of those badboys will probably be pretty high once the dealers get their allocations due to demand.

Hope this helps.

I know for a fact that '06 production will start by, at least the week of 9/5. That is the production date for my car that was ordered a couple of weeks ago.

That's been a juicy rumor floating around for over a year now. Paul Mullet from MINI2 seems convinced it'll happen but there are quite a few out there that are starting to doubt it. I for one hope it happens and put some faith in Paul's usually spot on track record for these things.

I just called in and my production date is 9/5/5 too. I ordered mine July 23rd and even at that point my MA said that there were no more slots available for an 05 Cooper S. So I would think that trying to order one now would be impossible since they've got the plant shut down for refit and maintanence for the 06 run.

See you on the 9/5 thread R.R.!

I remember reading something about it as well... Along with that rumour, I also remember reading on a semi-official looking site that they will be very limited, something like 2000 worldwide...

http://www.mini2.com/news/news311.html

Forget about it for US. "including replacing glass with perspex in suitable panels,..."

never pass DOT.

My impression was that this was a 06 car NOT and 05 car ("help the 1st generation MINI flagship go out with a real bang")
