R50/53 MINI wave-not dead!
MINI wave-not dead!
Got a cool flash of the brights and wave from a very nice chili red S this morning. Haven't gotten that in a LONG TIME! It made my morning commute!
Thanks, whoever you are!

I got a wave from someone in a DS MCS last week as I was trying to pull out from an alley into a jammed 4 lane one way street (cars were stop and go). I started to go when a gap appeared and realized the car with the right of way was just dawdling, clutching and not letting me in. That was the DS MCS. I thought he was waving to allow me to go in first, but it was not the case. My passenger said, "That's really nice. The guy's waving to you because you both have MINIs." Whatever.
I get it everyonce in a while and always try to wave or flash my lights to MINI's I see. I wan't used to doing that before I moved out of VA cause there just aren't that many MINI's down there but in CT they are everywhere.
I don't even drive a MINI (yet), but any time I see a MINI I give it a wave or thumbs up.
Though I've only been acknowledeged once.
Oh well, I will keep doing this for the next 3/4 of a year until I get to order my MINI.

In the NW 'burbs of Chicago, where stress levels are as high as the humidity is, we nonetheless be wavin' to beat the band! There's even a couple nice velvet red and silk greens around, still flashing before dashing
.
Passed 2 MINI's, got 2 waves, it's all good.
I should re-read that "MINI As Stress Management" thread one of these minutes... it's just that there's no TIME

Sadly, around here (with a few notable exceptions) it seems that the "I'm-hopelessly-paranoid-about-any-strange-person-I-don't-know" syndrome has overtaken the "hi-I-drive-a-MINI-too" vibe that I'd hoped would survive a bit longer. Some people around here look at you like you're about to attack them if you wave. Sad. I still wave though and...fair warning...always will!
In my small-ish town, (26000) there are at least a dozen minis out and about. We all wave, beep, (instead of honking) flash, (the lights. you pervs
) and make gerneral fools of ourselves showing the Mini good cheer.

Around here most of us wave at each other on the back roads. I always get a wave from the garbage truck, the guy that sucks out my septic holding tank, the local plumber and electician guys. The kids that are here for the summer wave.
Guess thats why our licence plates say "Friendly Manitoba"

We have no MINI dealership in Chattanooga, but I have noticed several MINIS here in town and typically we wave at eachother. Tonight I pulled up next to an all pepper white Cooper and waved to them, and both the passenger and driver waved back. But earlier today I saw a red Cooper S with white roof and bonnet stripes and 2 cute girls in them and they did not return my wave. But then again, in that case I actually was on my Litespeed bike.

In the S.F. Bay Area, my experience has been that MINI drivers wave to each other. On some occaisions, we have visually examined each other's car in passing and given the other driver the thumb up. The visual examinations have generally happened when one MINI was stopped at a left turn lane and the other MINI was driving through the intersection.
MINI driver smiled at me and I acknowledged with a thumbs up. She was going the opposite direction on the other side of a landscaped divider in a dark MCS with checkerboard top, white mirrors and white S lites and no vanity plate--looked really nice. I am averaging about one wave a week for the past 2 weeks after about 3 months of ownership and having encountered approximately 1 MINI every five minutes of driving. Guess that's because I drive almost exclusively in the northeast quadrant of San Francisco where there are a lot of MINIs.
But I got a wave and a thumbs up from a pedestrian the other day. He was in Buddhist robes (shaved head too) and at first I thought he was acknowledging that I stopped to let him by. Nope. He pointed at my car and gave me a thumbs up with a nod and a smile. That was as close as I had gotten to transcending the cosmos while waiting at a stop sign.

When a topless MINI goes whizzing by them with me waving wildly, they have no choice
