Liquid Yellow & Lapis Blue Leather

Does anyone have these color combos on their MINI?

Some background info, I have a friend that is placing an order (last of the '05s) for an MCSa in Liquid Yellow (discontinued)... Currently, within the MINI creator he has the LY/LY exterior, but also wants the LY interior pieces with the Lapis Blue Leather and anthracite headliner. While it is interesting looking on the MINI USA website, he was wondering if there were any "real life" shots of this before he makes his final determination.

Or, what are everyone's thoughts regarding the color combo? I think it would be cool, but tough to imagine in person if it can be pulled off, so to speak...

If I'm not mistaken, I think the Lapis blue has black on it as well. I know the cordoba beige has black with it on the edges of the seats. If the lapis blue does, that might sway your friend. IMO, I think it would be too much going on. Yellow and solid blue seats is really a great combo but I think the black would detract from it.

I don't think that would look good. Having a LY car, with LY dash/door trim and lapis blue seats sounds a bit cheesy. I would stick with black or grey/black leatherette seats. Actually, I would think black/grey leatherette seats would look best against the LY dashboard.

I have a 2003 MCS; LY/W exterior with Lapis Blue interior.
LY interior pieces were not available in 2003.
I have silver interior pieces. I like my color combo very much.
I have been thinking about having the interior pieces painted blue.

When I ordered my 03 LY/B, lapis blue was not available with that colour combo.

I think Lapis Blue seats with LY dash clash too much. If you have Silver/Alloy patina or Anthracite dash on a LY MCS, then the Lapis Blue seats will look much better. I just don't see that working with LY trim pieces in the interior.

That is what MINIUSA said. That is what the MINI literature said.
However, if that combo was actually entered into the order computer
by the saleperson, the order was accepted. I emailed a person at
MINIUSA several times trying to get a reason why that combo
was not available until he got very hostile with me.

I met a soon to be new MINI owner back in October of 02 who was awaiting his LY/W MCS with lapis blue leather. I saw the MINI at Century MINI when it came in. It looked cool. The owner was a Univ. of Michigan fan. He did not put the sunroof on the car since he was planning on a blue block M decal for the roof. He sold the car shortly after taking delivery. As an Ohio State fan I would have preferred a PS/PS with a buckeye on the roof.

Well that color combination doesn't work for me. The darkness of the black and brightness of the lapis blue with the yellow yield too many contrasts for me. But it's not my car. The important thing is that you like it.

As an owner of a Liquid Yellow, I don't think it would look very good either. However, I'm a firm believe of if you like it get it. My wife hates Yellow, but I got it anyway.

no offense but

tho I consider myself open to all MINI color combos, the thought of LY and lapis blue leather together makes me gag too much primary color contrast. cordoba makes more sense with LY (and def looks the part.) jimbo

I believe he tried the Cordoba beige as well... But I believe that gives you the side panels as well (beige), and the mix that with the yellow and silver... I am starting to lean towards telling him to keep it black on the LY... But he is still unsure...

Thanks for all of your thoughts, keep'em coming if you have any ideas... I believe the door is going to be closed soon as production is close to starting for a late September delivery.

Hey CooperSaz...I considered doing that combo when I ordered my LY/W MCS last August. But then the red/black cloth/leather combo seats came out and I went with that...yes, on a yellow car!

I did not want the yellow inserts (my reasoning was yellow is too tense a colour for such a small interior space) but wanted colour on the inside of the car. Red is warmer, so I went with that with the standard silver inserts. I LOVE the combo I went with. I've had plenty of people comment that while they never would have thought of doing a red interior on a yellow car, they would now after seeing it.

I don't love the coloured inserts w/the coloured seats that was mocked up...seems like too much is going on. It might work with red only because they are in the same area of the colour spectrum, but I still think it could be too much. I don't think the cordoba would work either.

For me, any available seating colour works with the LY with any of the standard inserts (because you can't see any LY inside the car). Once the LY inserts are added, I think you need to choose carefully.

Oh, and I don't know if you remember, but I was part of the September build group with you over on MINI2. I think I got my car about 2 weeks before you. Kim

I want to add that the Liquid Yellow/Lapis Blue combo would also be good for UCLA Bruin fans!

Go Bruins!

This isn't my MINI --- this picture was originally posted I think by MINI2go a few months ago. I will be getting this custom interior at some point on my own LY MCSC.

Well, it does look a bit strange to me, but at first everything about the MINI is strange until you come to love it. I've seen colors, like Solid Gold, work on a MINI that don't work on most cars. The MINI has this strange ability to make tacky become cool. Have your friend think about it for a little. The car owner in my is saying "ICK", but the MINI obsessed and artistic part of me is going "Now that is neat". It is really up to your friend how off the wall he wants his MINI to be. To be honest I think it is hard to make a truely ugly MINI.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback! I am forwarding all of the comments to him as they come in... and first of all, he is JUST AMAZED as the responses by everyone (for it or against it). I imagine not something you would get from the BMW crowd! Did I mention, he is trading in his BMW 3-Series convertible to get the MINI!

Thanks again to all! If you got'em, keep'em coming...

I think that if he wants the LY dash trim, his best bet is to stick to Panther black leather/leatherette seats or Grey/Black leatherette seats.

The blue stuff in the seats still does not work well with my eyes.

I think adding blue mirror caps...or LY/blue checkered mirror caps would top off the look nicely.
