R50/53 How many MINI owners are pilots?
Just thought it would be interesting to see how many MINI owners are pilots. I know that as an airplane and car nut, the MINI quickly peaked my interest because of its superior handling and performance for the $. My weekends of flight instructing have gotten much better now that I have Flash. I drive Flash to the airport, taking the twisty way, then hop in a Cessna and fly all day. When the day is done, I get to drive Flash again! Does it get any better than that? Not for me!

My father doesn't visit this board, but I'll speak on his behalf. He owns a regular MINI Cooper and has been a pilot for over 30 years for the Air Force and Delta Airlines, based out of Seattle.
That's a cool cat, HighAnxiety!
What planes did he fly for the Air Force?

pilot it where? is that what you meant. i think the big dial in the center is what got my attention. it sure looks like aircraft to me. and all the **** and switches sure look great. i like the fact that i can open the windows with my keys so i can yell contact to start the engine. just having some fun. been flying for 38 years and have a couple of nice planes. got lucky once and even got hired by one of the majors. so im flying high and low now days. got a few years to go before retirement so making as much fun of life as i can and the mini is one great way to add a little more mini fun to life. currently flying the big stuff b737-800 series no guages only tv screens and ****!
Been flying for 24 years, went the military route. Army, mostly helicopters (Hueys and Hawks), but transitioned to King Airs (RC-12H) before I retired. Now fly helicoters again, and light fixed wing, C-182 and a very touchy C-185.
Well I am not a pilot but I'm fixen to be one day. I did take ground school in highschool but stopped there. (long time ago). When driving through the great planes I often stop at some of the old WWII training fields on the way to feel the history if you know what I mean.
This one is really neat. You cant see in the pictures but the WWII hangers are still there.

I actually just outprocessed this morning from United Airlines - pretty tough stuff
This afternoon, I was so bummed, I had to hit the track. I did some testing with tire pressures, swaybar settings, and how the H&Rs work. I also had a blast, as I was the only one out there!
I'm flying in a Cessna this weekend - it'll be great to get back into General Aviation again.

randybmc im bummed for you to. i was furloughed in 81 for 3.5 years. my wife was too. but had a great 3.6 years doing other things. as a general aviation pilot you know the hardships and will find something good to do.
Cuny, I got to fly the 737-800 sim at Continental in September for the ATOP program. ATOP is a two-day intro to airline training available to any US pilot (www.b737.com). We were scheduled for the -300, but the sim kept locking up on us, so we got moved to the -800. What a nice cockpit! The glass displays were very easy to get used to, especially the trend indicators for airspeed. Now all I need is to get that display in my C-172!
I had a feeling that we had a fair amount of pilots driving MINIs!
Randy, have fun in the Cessna this weekend! I'm flying a VFR night X-C tomorrow night and the low temp is going to be 8 degrees (that's cold for MO)!

Hmm.
This one is a sore subject, kinda. I had to decide whether to buy my own car (I had my mom's 87 SAAB before) or start flying.
I picked the car. *sigh*
Well, the car rocks and I work on the ramp at Logan, so I get to see enough airplanes I guess. Nonreving is also cool.
Tomorrow I am flying BOS-MKE-GRR-MKE-DFW. Just going to Grand Rapids for lunch with another guy from work. Then coming back on Tuesday I am flying OKC-EWR-BOS. OKC-EWR is an RJ! Heh, I love that flight though. It's an ERJ-145XR or XL or whatever the new one is. Winglets, aux fuel tank, and other stuff. 4 hour flight!
Pretty cool to see we have bunches of pilots in here though.

I first flew in a Piper Tri-Pacer when I was 17 ... but I wasn't the pilot,
Soon after I did hammerhead stalls and inverted loops in a Waco .. but I was in the front seat,
Next I was in the right seat of a 172B on the way to Montana .. my Dad was the pilot,
I grew up a half mile from a grass strip where the four brothers who lived there ALL became commercial pilots .. I had the chance but I didn't learn to fly then,
My brother, the ultra-light guy .. no room for me on that one,
My son has had lessons; I paid for the first as a 16th birthday gift,
And, you can't believe the view from a glider over the north shore of Hawaii .. Joe was the pilot,
How about a hot air balloon 3000 ft over the prairies of Illinois .. Terry was the pilot,
I've arrived and departed from 60+ strips in the world .. someone else was the pilot,
I love to fly!! But I'm still not a pilot ...
