Can anyone in a smaller market atest to a 12-14 month wait on the Mini S????

The dealership in Sterling VA really hammered home the "put a $1000 down now" and in a year you you can get yours.

How much of this is dealer pressure vs reality???

Thanks in advance.

The $1000 is common to all Mini dealers... With it, you'll be able to order your MINI the way you want it in the coming months... If you then decide not to take delivery, in the time allowed in the contract, you should get a refund. However, if you don't care about shelling out an extra couple of thousand, you could always go out of state, and buy there.

Not always... Towne over here in Western New York has only a manditory $500 deposit, and my MCS was ordered at the dealership June 20th, and I already have a scheduled production date in early August, according to the owner's lounge....

Same here at Hassel of Long Island NY, I only put down $500. Waiting only 2weeks on the Traviata should arrive July15th. Car had been previously ordered/canceled by someone else. Hence I was able to get it in 3-4weeks as opposed to 4 months.

My deposit in Jacksonville was $500 and I ordered what I wanted, I turned down the option of an S that came prespeced to the dealer (it didn't have everything i wanted). I could have had the prespec in two months but with ordering mine in March I have a delivery date of around the 25th of this month (4 months).

I was lucky enough to have a client in North Jersy I had to go see.... and just happen by the dealer in Mahwah(prestige).. I already had my deposit down at another dealer in Princeton... but wanted to just see the car again.... after talking to Dan there and getting some IMPORTANT INFO I realised I was getting HOSED on the WAIT time. I had ~ordered~ my car about two weeks prior with a SOMETIME in August delivery date... only thing was I had no order confirm # and I would call almost daily to get this so I could track the event... so... long story short, I aksed for my deposit back, since Dan had one coming in with same equip and would sell it at list...... the fella at Princeton was RELUCTANT to give me my 1000 deposit back , stating if the car ~WAS~ in process it was ~my~ car... I told him to : get bent : as he could just sell it for more. I picked up my deposit that day , and Prestige took a deposit over the phone by AMEX.(500)

Dan also mentioned he is selling a few cars a month to out of state people, like in california!.....

You are lucky if you get to do that! Here in Sacramento, CA. hundreds of us put our names in Niello BMW's so-called waiting list way last year. Here's what Niello did to us. The night before the car was released for sale, they e-mailed everyone on the list stating that they dumped the list and it is now first come, first served AND you can't order/spec the car the way you want.

When MINI of N. Scottsdale called me about a New MINI they said, 1,000 for the list or 2,000 to order. They ordered it the same day I gave them the check.
Sch. for production on 7/5/02, awaiting transport, 7/6/02, hoping for middle of August to take delivery. Still no test drive!
