Victim of a hit and run

Well, while washing the MCS yesterday we discovered that we had been the victim of a hit and run We have no idea when it happened, but it had to have been within the last week. Unfortunately, the damage couldn't be seen until the car was washed. The back bumper was pretty scratched up and there are several indentations in the rear bumper cover from whatever hit the car. I must say whoever hit it, hit pretty darn hard because there is more damage the the bumper cover than when I was rearended in my BMW and that lady just about knocked my car out into the intersection when she hit me. It's always something ...

Anyone have any idea how much the rear bumper cover for a MCS costs? Our insurance deductible is $500.

Oh yeah, some people just suck!

You should be able to get it done well under $500. I think the cover is a couple hundred at the very most. ( i think around $150 )

Thats too bad, and some people do S U C K !

sorry to hear about your car.

there might be people in the MarketPlace who got the aero bumper
and selling their factory bumper cover.

hidden damage?

it is also possible there is damage to the support beam and absorber underneath-we frequently get cars in that appear to only need a cover, and after cover removal we discover the other parts are needed as well.

Sorry to hear about that :(

Aside from possible other damage beneath the bumper cover (which you might want to have checked out) I think your best bet is to ask local dealers for any pull-offs from cars delivered with the aero kit installed. That or look for people having it installed (maybe your body shop would know of someone).

Best of luck with it. Many people do suck, I've had my share of hit and runs on previous cars

It's times like this where I'd like to have cameras mounted in every direction of the car inside or out, small enough so as not to be intrussively ugly, but good enough to catch the damn dirty ape that caused my car damage. Then track down the @#%#er in question and do a little hit and run to their face. A little pent up anger about this? Maybe. It's just that it's happened to me too many times all ready. Hope you find a witness and some leads.
Cheers,

I think there probably is from how the bumper cover looks. It's worse than the BMW was and the bumper and bumper supports also had to be replaced. Any idea on cost?

Will do, but don't know if I'll have much luck. Not too many Hyper Blue MCS over here.

Sorry to hear about your booboo!

My miata got knocked in my work parking lot. I use the term knocked lightly... just on my passenger front fender and an inch into the door, it was about 1200$ of damage. No note, no witnesses. I tell my new coworker about it and she's super sympathetic.

Then two days ago i find out that the huge knot in her rear bumper was from when SHE hit a parked car a month after i told her about my mishap, and she DROVE off before the people could see her. I asked her how hard she hit them "they took the biggest blow" and she was banged up pretty bad herself!

People don't care. But it made me feel a little better she got a bruised up bumper and cant afford to fix it since she ran off after hitting someone. I can only hope the a-hole that hit me got knocked up as bad.

Go for a new bumper and find a good but inexpensive paint shop. Since you'll have to go through UM (as i did) and pay $500 to insurance... i say SAVE that deductible, fix the bumper on your own, and save your rates and good claims record. I screwed up by not doing that :/

Sorry to hear that. My car (2000 subaru) was a victim of a hit and run when i took it on vacation. The car was hit by another car in our driveway of the house we rented. The driveway was being shared with two houses. Well the neighboring house the people that stayed there drove out late at night and hit my car while leaving. Well lets just say they never parked there car back there after that happend. I could not prove that they did it, but damn sure they did. They had a white car and the paint on my car was white. And it seems pretty odd that they still stayed there but never had the car there.

Garrett

Best of luck!!

my rear bumper was quoted 511 painted with a MC bumper, it was like 530 painted with an MCS bumper.

the aluminum bumper structure underneath easily bends and prevents major frame/structural damage most of the time. it runs about 125 more...

hope this helps!

Fact of the matter is, some people just don't care - and some of 'em are so clueless, I don't see how the get a license - if they even have one!!

I was leaving the neighborhood Blockbuster a few years back, and I saw some old lady trying to pull out - she hit the car next to her, and just kept driving. I'm talking SERIOUS damage to BOTH cars, and she didn't even flinch. Just kept grinding her old grannymobile along the front of the other car until she literally TORE her car loose, then pulled out onto the main road and drove off. . .

I glanced at the damage, then jumped into my Eclipse to track her down to get a plate number and possibly ask her to return to the scene of the accident - I caught up to her in traffic (no big problem - Eclipse turbo vs. Buick Grannymaster Roadhog Limited) - I tried to get her attention, but she was either ignoring me or had no clue I was there, I still don't know which. I got her tag number and went back to the Blockbuster to pass it on to the car that got hit - and that car was gone!! I mean, hell's bells - the fender was caved in and the bumper was hanging a good 8-9" off the front of the car - you'd have to be BLIND to not notice the damage!! But they just drove off. . .

I went ahead and called the local cops to tell 'em what I saw and passed on the tag number just in case the victim called it in later. . .don't know what ever came of it. . .but it REALLY pissed me off that there was a fairly serious accident that no one seemed to care about, not the victim and not the perp.

Crazy. . .

ACS 330ci,

There must be a trend starting here.
Last Tuesday my wife was walking towards her car to drive home from work, and noticed a couple of hefty dents as well as a creaseline in the back bumper skin.
She had been out to lunch at a nearby deli, and had not noticed anything when she left there, but the position of the car in the company carpark later that day precluded anyone from rearending the mini, so it must have happened at lunchtime.
On Wednesday, I contacted my Insurers and took the car into my local friendly repair shop.
Bearing in mind that the car is a MCSC with park assist, (which is now not working), the initail estimate is $598.95.
This includes $266.00 for the bumper skin, and the balance is labor, paint and clearcoat.
I am sure this will escalate when the skin is removed, although there doesn't appear to be anything like the extent of damage you experienced.
I will let you know when I get the final bill.
Sorry to hear of your mishap.
Carl

That was REALLY thoughtful of you. We need more people like you around when something happens. That's too bad that person left. It's situations like that that freak me out to make a thorough walk around my car at each and every place i go now. There were only a couple times i haven't... and wouldn't you know they're the only times i've been dinged or hit.

I wonder how many people saw any of the above mentioned accidents happen and didn't do a thing to help the people out?

When I bought my first new BMW (a coral red beauty back in '92, in Germany no less. . .) I went out of my way to park WAY at the back of every parking lot I stopped in. . .and wouldn't ya know it, I ALWAYS came out and found some chowderhead parked right next to me. . .I could NEVER figure that one out. . .I mean, most people will circle the mall lot for 45 minutes to park in the first three rows (and then roll out of the car and waddle the last 40' to the food court door) so why, oh WHY do you park right next to my brand new BMW??? Hell, if you wanna take a look at it, sure, go ahead - but park a space or two away. Makes me wanna scream sometimes, the total lack of respect for anyone or anything. . .

<deep breaths, deep breaths>

Okay, I'm fine now, sorry.

happens to the best of us, i guess. the harder you work for what you've got, the more people take advantage of you and your possessions.
