What did your warranty cover?

There seems to be a bit of a discrepancy among MINI dealers as to what is and is not covered under the warranty. I recently had a clutch plate go out while I was still under the maintenance/36000 mile warranty. I was told by MINI of Nashville that it was a 'wear and tear' issue, and that I would have to pay the nearly $2000 job myself. I waited about 15000 miles, while I saved up the $2000 (this is very difficult for a college student). I brought my MINI in for its 45000 mile service and oil change. I asked them to look at the clutch and see if it would be covered under warranty because, on NAM, I found that some fellow MINI motorists had the very same problem covered under warranty, just by a different dealership. After I showed MINI of Nashville that indeed South Bay MINI had repaired the clutch under warranty, they were repaired mine. Even though I was over the 36000 mile maintenance warranty that would cover it, I had previously brought it to their attention while I was under the 36000 mile warranty.
I thought I should start a thread so that we can help other motorists who have been told something is a 'wear and tear' issue. There is a gray area among these dealers regarding some items, so I want to make it concrete so that no one has to pay for something they shouldn't have. Below I have the receipt that shows MINI of Nashville covered my clutch plate replacement, door handle replacement, steering spindle, steering column, and several other items. MINI of Nashville really treats their customers well, so I thought that all MINI dealerships should step up to the bar.

One more part of the clutch...

Feel free to post what your dealer has covered under either the 36k or 50k warranty, in order to help our fellow motorists. Sorry for the long post!

I was just wondering... It says door handles peeling. Which one is that talking about, the grab handle or the chrome one that opens the door? I didnt know i could warranty that.

My list :

Ticking steering column
Worn rotors +pads (front+rear)
Countless reprograms of the software (its a 2002 ...for a while it was a new version each month it seems )
Coolant leak...checked and no problem found , but the check was free

They replaced the Y-shaped door handle that has the leather armpad. I forgot to add that my brake pads and rotors were also replaced. Be sure to give the name of the dealer that took care of your warranty replacement.

Where to start?

1. Repair to roof, four times, due to poor quality control of mechanics installing the factory roof rack(initial problem) and the body shop doing the re-paint(secondary problem).
2. Replacement of steering column because of clicking
3. Replacement of coolant overflow tank, seam failure and leak
4. Squeeks and rattles from dashboard, four times (so far)
5. Replacement of fabric seat cover, flaw in fabric
6. Squeeks in drivers seat, replacement of seat frame, insulation of seat frame, insulation between fabric and foam cushions(four attempts so far)
7. EPA mandated re-flash of the DME/ECU with v39(introduction of various throttle related issues)
8. Re-flash with v41 to correct v39 problems, no change

I think that is it so far. Well, what I can remember.
All that being said, this is the most fun car I have ever owned

'02 MCS, service at BMW of Darien, CT

Yah, tell me about it

Since we are talking about warranty and the brakes. I took my car in KNOWING that the pads and rotors were in very bad condition. I figured, of course they will agree and fix them. Well they didnt...they said they would be fine for quite a while. I was rather upset, but wasnt going to argue. I then came back just 3 weeks later (no track or anything...barely any driving even) and the guy servicing my car told me..."wow, you should have had these brakes looked at months ago" . So now after they refused to fix them just weeks ago, they were telling me that they have needed the change for quite some time (no surprise to me...i knew they were low)

Also forgot -FREE swirl marks all over my paint due to their free (and surprise) wash after a service.

Anyways, all the things i listed were done/not done at Classic MINI in mentor ohio
(their sales and parts department are GREAT....their service department, however, is terrible)
I, along with many of their long-time (2-3 years) customers DO NOT reccomend their service department if you can avoid it.
