I really need some advice on how to deal with the local mini dealer here in sunny
San Diego. Brech. They have the exact car that I want a dark silver S with absolutly no additions and the matching color roof. (perfect autocross car) Only problem is the 4000 doller markup the 2000 rims and tires and the 1800 doller wax and lojack package. So about 8K on top of a 20K car.

Now if they had one or two I could see something like this but they have 10 S's on the lot with 11 comming in to port tommorow plus a even 30 or so standards. So what to due, at this point I am getting really discouraged and due to having to trade my S2000 in, I am limiting my search to 200 miles from the house. ( I also need to do this within the next two weeks if possible.)

Any body got a clue as to what I can do to bring the dealer down on there markup, I simply refuse to pay over MSRP at this point. Any othe dealers in the area that might have a no option S sitting on the lot. I re4ally don;t care about the color as long as it is not yellow or white.

Chears. Mike.

P.S. "Blech" is reallly not fun to work with, but they have a lot of cars and service a big area with lots of money so I guess they are used to mouching off of San Diego.Look forward to any advise and hope to show up to some meets in the future if I get around to findng a car.

In a word or two, I'd say "No", despite the fact that they have exactly what you want, OR be willing to travel to avoid being gouged. That much of a mark up is too much.

Good luck,
Jim

I bought my MC @ Crevier in Santa Ana. Had to pay a$2000 markup, which was the lojack, paintguard and mats. Irvine MINI marked up $1700, Long Beach had no markup.. This was in Sept of '02 and it was not for the "s", but you could check with them. Those are the 3 in my area. Just call and deal over the phone.

Rims&tyres, wax & lojack cost 'something' so actually you're looking at a 24k car for 28k ... still doesn't look too good! But while you are looking elsewhere, Make the dealer an offer (if they are really getting more in all the time, they have too many);A single colour car with noting on it won't 'move' off the lot as fast as one that has a few options so they may be willing to deal a bit ... tell them what you want to pay (be fair, now ...) and where you can be contacted and wait for the call.
what have you got to loose?

This is a little off topic, but interesting none the less. The dealer closest to me,MINI Victoria on Vancouver Island has four 2002 MC(not demos)for sale, with from $3000 to $4000 off the msrp!

But extra Rims&tires, lojack, and wax is a markup if you are forced to take it with the car.

I bought my car from East Bay Mini in No Cal. No dealer markup and no dealer ad-ons on spec cars but a 6 month wait for Cooper and a little longer wait for an S.

They sometimes have cars on the lot, those usually have "extras" but they don't add a dealer markup.

 As far as I'm concerned Brecht can choke on their marked-up cars. If everyone would grow a backbone and put sense before desire Brecht would choke on all of them. As you can see by other posts, car are available other places. Brecht wants to take advantage of their customer base and treat them like garbage, all the while expecting you to plead with them for the chance to buy one of their cars. Don't even ask to test drive an "S". As you can tell there is still much anger over this one! I'm a San Diego native and I won't do business with these guys! I don't beg anyone to give them my money!!!!!!

Irvine is charging 1K for MC and 2500 for MCS.
they do have some on the lot that they have purchased from other dealers. If I remeber correctly, for in stock vehicles instead of the markup, they have a bunch of "extras" loaded on the car. It all works out the same in the end though.

Overall, they are pleasant to deal with. They have been very patient with all my questions and frequent visits.

actually I should have said a 1K markup for MC and 2500 markup for MCS.
Don't we all wish we could get an MC for 1K and 2500 for MCS!!

I am reading that you have to do this in 2 weeks! Too bad you don't have more time! so here's some free advise, for what it's worth! Don't buy from Brech, obviously they don't mind having allot of cars on their lot and having allot of cars means no one wants to or will buy from them!

I say, Plan a weekend car buying trip! You've got 2 weeks so set aside 2 days and money for a hotel ! Then call around and find your car! Then make your hotel reservations and drive over and get it. I have heard of people driving for 2 days each way to pick up a car. They had a great time motoring home in their new MINI. He didn't mind the hotel costs because it was WAY less than the mark up! and it gave him and his wife a fun trip, like a mini vacation. (sorry about the pun)

You can buy your car anywhere and still have it serviced at your local dealer.

OUCH!

I'd call all the dealerships around for sure. I got Gidget @ crevier in Santa Ana and I think it was under $2K markup - i'm thinking $1500.

$4K is a major joke and they don't deserve to sell any cars for that!
