Is it normal for dealers to add $2500 to the MSRP? I have never even paid MSRP for a car. I always pay $300-500 over invoice. They are asking for $4000 over invoice! What is the deal? I'm willing to travel to keep from getting ripped off, but I haven't found a dealer who is not adding the extra charge. I really like the Mini, but my kids will want to go to college someday.

I am surprised to hear this.
You should have no trouble finding one at MSRP.
Try other dealers. If you can't find one closer I
know one in Florida....but I am sure you will hear
from someone closer.
In March 02 I paid above MSRP to get one of the first Coops.
In September 02 I bought an S at MSRP.

Westchester Mini in Westchester, NY charges MSRP with no other markup. They have sold to a lot of out of state customers. They are very nice to deal with.

That markup is between the dealer and his conscience

Good luck on finding a level-headed dealer!

If you are willing to come down to southern California then you can purchase a MINI at MSRP from Long Beach MINI. I live nearby them, and have had my service done with them and they are quite excellent. I bought my MINI at Irvine MINI and paid a mark up of $1250 because I couldn't stand waiting on the Long Beach list, but if you have patience then try Long Beach.

MINI of Murray (Salt Lake City) @ MSRP! Good people to do business with.

Bought my car via e-mail at MSRP without any problems at all including BMW financing.

I can add my dealer to the "no markup" list- New Country MINI in Hartford, CT. They do have a range of dealer installed options (which a number of the "in stock" cars have) that can jack up the price, but my advisor didn't pressure me at all to take any of them when I ordered. Look around!

Moritz in Dallas Texas (817)436-5717 is the only dealer in the western US selling all models at MSRP without a waiting list. Long Beach, Phoenix, etc. sell at MSRP with 10 month lists or longer. I got a MCS production number within hours of my first call to Moritz because they happened to be submitting an order that day and had a couple of spots not yet spoken for. State and doc fees add $100 but that's it - no Lojack, no permaplate, no nothing, just raw unbridled MSRP the way god intended. They'll even ship it to your door for a modest price.

You may find other dealers with standard Coopers, but the only place in the west for S's is Moritz.

I am paying MSRP, and no add-on charges. I had no hassle with Motor City MINI; their policy is to "not screw the customer". I was impressed, and satisfied. Now I have to wait a few months until my car comes in, but I know it's less wait than other cities. I'm just hoping the service is as good post-delivery...we'll see!

Well, Niello is now tacking an extra $1500 onto the $995 they charge for wax and floor mats. All the other California dealers seem to be doing the same thing, with or without floor mats...

So, you're in Fresno, California....my ole stompin' grounds. Sounds like most Cali MINI dealers are adding a big markup  From what I've read Long Beach is the only dealer selling at MSRP.
DVLMINI from SoCal bought MINI from Hawaii and had it shipped to Cali. Seems MINI of Hawaii has been getting few out of state orders, mostly West coast. It might be cheaper to buy MINI here in HI, at MSRP, then ship it(last I heard around $800-$900)
Good Luck!
BTW, Aloha and welcome to MCO!

I live on the other side of the Sierras from you in Bishop and was having the same concerns with the MINI dealers in Ca. So I bought mine at MINI of Murray in Salt Lake. No mark-up of any kind, no hassle, no problems at all. I can't recomend them enough. It was an eight hour drive to pick up, but it was a lot less than the extra $2,500 to stay in Ca. Which for me the closest dealer is five hours away anyway. Oh, and it was over half way thru with breaking in when I got home.

Go to Lauderdale MINI in Ft. Lauderdale, FL as they sell new MINIs strictly at MSRP pricing. Great people, I consider them family. Talk to Crystal Neagle and Larry Bonito.

Avoid the lousy MIami dealers (South Motors MINI & Braman MINI) at all costs.

I'm sure you've heard that Long Beach Mini is purchasing 34 Mini's from the East coast. If you want a non "S". then my suggestion is to call them and get a list of cars that are arriving next week. The cost is an additional $700 for shipping.
If you want an "S", then call Mini of the Hampton's (631) 283-0888 and talk to Mike or Torro. They have cars in stock, with more on the water.
They will sell at MSRP and cost of shipping to the west coast is approx $800-900.
Autolog will ship via covered rail for $915 to their warehouse in Newark, Calif.Their number is (800) 527-6776.

Hope this helps.

I must correct vespa; Moritz is in Arlington, Texas, not Dallas. Here in Texas, not being in Dallas is a BIG advantage.

I've read that California residents are really getting hosed when it comes to Mini prices. I live in Tennessee, and bought mine at MSRP, but was told 7 1/2 hours earlier that MSRP would NOT be the "rule of the day" at BMW of Nashville. I was finally offered two cars at sticker, but they were most likely Minis that had the most dust. Mine had been there around a week. I've read that Roadshow Memphis sells at or below MSRP, and the wait time is minimal. Good Luck!

Jim
