R50/53 THE APRIL CLUB
Chef WHO?
Hello all..and thanks for keeping the April Club alive!!!
I must admit I've been a major slacker...or lurker anyway.
Burnie and I are doing well, just clicked over 22K today...still no big mods...we've been spending most of our $ on doing mods to the house (and it will be paid off in only 14 more months!!!!) Been very active with our local club (the South Tejas Mini Club, that is).
Its about time to think about new tires (or is that tyres?) so any advice for a non-modded, mostly daily driver who does the occasional Hill country speed run, twice a year performance (pursuit) driving school at the police academy would be very welcome...hoping to attempt my first track day in summer 2005.
Glad all are well...congrats to Rachel on the engagement (and the BoSox...keep the faith!!!...I can say that since my Dodgie's flamed out in the first round).
Peace to all remaining CWFACers...should generation III be arriving soon??
Don't forget to vote!!
Love and kisses, the long-lost, but occasionally appearing chef-dude!

WOW It's Chefie
Great to hear from you. Don't stay away so long next time.Check out the Kumho line of tires. 712's will give you good performance, better life. MX, better performance but not quite as durable as the 712's. Kimhos seem to be a good bang for the buck.

Cheffie! Glad to see you're still with us! I'm really liking the Kumho tires for the track.
Okay, I'll admit that they're still on my car after the last track event at NHIS. I'm a BAD lazy person. I'm finding that they seem to be less sensitive about colder weather than the F1's. Definitely less good in the rain...
Right, so if anyone's in the area September 10th next year and wants to party.... come join us! I'm hoping that there's not a track day right then.
We made an appointment to listen to some awesome home speaker systems at a fabulous high-end audio studio (their listening rooms are also recording studios and they're the only location in the US for some of the setups they have). Of course, we discovered that half of the sales staff is hugely into driving and tracking, and ended up spending WAY too much time talking about that rather than the speakers! We had a field trip out to see my Mini and admire the Band-aid (still sticking!).

Finally put a swaybar on. The new Rspeed 22. I have been running on the middle hole. Great improvement. I am going to Sears point/Infineon on the 29th. Should be lots of fun. It is a very technical track.
Has anyone tried ferodo brake fluid?
Later:smile:

Haven't tried it... still happy with the Motul.
Big duh: the Eagle F1's don't like the snow. Got caught out in a freak snowstorm on Friday trying to get back from the barn. Irritated a lot of SUV drivers who were SURE their four wheel drive was going to save them (maybe the person who rolled it and got their Pathfinder stuck in a tree realized his error..).
*sigh* I don't want to put on my winters! No fun!

Big mod! New chrome gas cap courtesy of my dealer when in for the two emission recalls last week (tank pressure computer reflash and PCV hose).
Told them I did not like the way it looked. Looks new now!

Ferodo brake fluid review.
It makes a nice mess in the engine compartment and on the garage floor
I loaded up my power bleeder, pressured it up and went to the back to bleed, but what I didn't do was check the seal on the reservoir and fluid leaked out of the cap all over the place. Didn't have enough left to finish the job, so I had a big can of valvoline on the shelf and switched to that. So thanks Ryan for the valvoline.
My next srvice is due in a cuple of thousand miles, so I'll just do the recall then. Can't ignore it in CA, because the smogestapo will get you when you try to pass smog next time.
app thanksgiving all

Happy Thanksgiving to you~
We've had a heck of a time changing brake fluids lately... just bad karma, I think. Ending up with squishy pedals and un-inspiring performance. It's not like we've never done it successfully before! We haven't yet managed to spill in it the compartment, but I'm sure that's on schedule for next year.
I'm thinking about swapping out the control arm bushings for something more sturdy. Mine have a wee bit more play in them then they should for tracking. Also pondering stainless steel brake lines for a better pedal feel.
It's depressing knowing that the season is over until April or May.
Bandaid *still* firmly attached!

Don't mean to rub it in, but I was changing brake fluid for the 29th at Sears Point. Long range weather forecast shows dry weather lower 60's temps.
Stainless brake lines are on my Christmas list:smile:

What about icekhanas? The Jaguar Club of North America used to have them upstate NY. It's autocross on a frozen lake, and is very easy on the tires.
Fun! Maybe you can find one and keep the competitive juices flowing. Think I am going to look it up while I think of it!
Happy Thanksgiving!

woah - I was glad I put on my snow tires the other night - he had a crazy snowstorm yesterday here in Detroit!
Inches of snow in some places - not usual for this time of year at all.

Had a great day at Sears Point/Infineon yesterday. What an incredible track. You are always doing something challenging, or getting ready to do it. No breathers on this track. I had my first 4 wheels off-track excursion. The esses at Infineon are a series of increasing radius increaing speed turns. If you miss the first, the rest get progressively worse. During my secon rungroup, I came in too fast, hit the first apex too early, tried to correct into the second, and by the third, I was all cattywhompus, and did the unthinkable. I lifted.
Back end started around, I over compensated, went all the way around the other way, finally got straight, but backward, and went 4-wheels off into the dirt. Stopped about 15 feet short of a tire wall. Lessons learned. 1. If you miss the first turn in the esses, give up the whole set
2. DON'T LIFT
