Shipping ETA?

Hey NAM,

Another quick question. I live in New York and I'm just trying to figure out how long it normally takes for the boat to go from Europe to US? My Mini is slated for completion on 5/9 (next week ) so I'm trying to find out how long from that point. Dealer stated somewhere around 3 weeks, is that somewhat accurate?

Thanks!
-Nick

Cool. So I figure if everything goes as planned (crosses fingers) then it should take about a week for the Mini to ship across the Atlantic. And then about 2 more weeks getting all peeeeeeerrrrrrrtttttttyyyyyyy for me . 3 weeks seems like a realistic estimate. Thanks!

Yes the waiting is killing me right now. Even though its only been about 3 weeks since I ordered the car. I am just impatient.

The WW website lists 8 day transit times, but that obviously doesn't include loading and unloading times. I've noted the vessel name, voyage number and ship call sign so its progress can be tracked on NOAA. Not sure, but there might be some military operated sites with tracking info as well. pb

My car has been at the port of arrival for over a week. It's just sitting there on the boat and I have no idea why!?!?!?

I was going to be on the TRIANON, but I ended up not getting on the ship. Now, looks like I'll be on the MAERSK TEAL, departing from Southampton on the fifth, and arriving at NY on the 13th.

Resource constraints, probably. Just because a ship is in port doesn't mean the port has the ramps, cranes, personnel etc to unload right away. That will be my next nightmare; right now Nugget is across the pond waiting to be loaded. pb

Proper terms

I hate to be picky, but the following is a suggestion to better the terms we use. This falls in the same line as using "motor" in place of "drive" and "bonnet" instead of "hood", and lastly "boot" instead of "hatch" or "trunk".

The people in the ocean cargo business, cruise line business and other business who use large ocean-going vessels don't like their vessels to be called "boats"; the proper term is "ship", or "vessel"

Since we like using proper terms, it is my suggestion to try not using the term “boat”.

Happy motoring!

Hey, at least Nugget will have a friend! We're not aboard yet, but at this point it's looking pretty good for us! Pete

Awesome; when was Nugget born? My yet-to-be-named MINI was finished April 29th. First he was listed to be on the Resolve, then on the Trianon, now it's looking like the Maersk Teal. Hope third time is a charm!

Nugget was born this past Monday, May 2nd. Here's hoping he doesn't get bumped like yours!

Was wondering that myself... mine is scheduled to complete production on May 8th. I wonder if the dealers in the Dallas area get their shipments from the west coast or the east coast?

My Mini made it across the Atlantic pretty quickly. It finished production April 14th, made it on the boat for the 15th and arrived in NY on the 24th. The catch is that it has been sitting on the dock in NY since then :(

It's too bad I can't just head down that way and pick it up myself. Adding a couple hundred miles on it driving back to Boston would help make the break in period go by faster too!

Ocean liner is appropriate. Thanks!

Do I gain any leeway for being born in England? I blame growing up in the US!

Oh great....

Ok, so I checked up on my VIN this morning on the WW site. I'm on the shipping manifest for the MAERSK TEAL, but I'm waitlisted (got the asterisk beside my name)! My car has been at the docks since last friday, and I'm on the waitlist, while other cars that just got to the docks yesterday or the day before aren't waitlisted.

This suspense is killing me. I just need to get my car MOVING! Nothing's happening right now!

Ah, I was wondering what the astericks meant! Maersk Teal is scheduled to depart this evening at 8, UK time. I see there are 121 Minis on the booking list so far. I wonder how many cars a vessel of 40k tons can hold..? My bet is ten times that number.

Any idea why some get waitlisted and others don't? QC problems discovered on the quay..? pb

I sure hope not! That would suck! Finding a QC problem on my car on the dock... D'oh!

Help the ignorant/lazy - what is 8PM UK time on the east coast?

Also, there is only one other car on that manifest that has been there longer than mine - the day before, thursday the 28th. It also has a waitlisted asterisk. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to which ones are waitlisted.

Argh.

I think that would be 3pm our time. Maybe 4pm. Can't remember whether it's 4 or 5 hours difference. Google on time zones.

34 out of 121 vehicles on that booking number have asterics. One third seems a bit high for quality issues. On the other hand, I see now that every single vehicle is marked Received at Terminal, while last night dozens were still designated Ready to Receive. That's a good sign, right?

Pete

Well, we can certainly hope so!

11:50 AM here is 4:50 PM there. Five hours. So we'll see what happens at 3:00 then!

The Maersk Teal sailed this evening (Southampton time) and the WW page shows Nugget as Loaded Aboard Vessel!! The Southampton port listing no longer shows the ship in port, though I've not yet seen it on NOAA or a couple other ship tracking sites. Really holding my breath here, hoping Nugget was not another Mini that was loaded, then unloaded before the ship sailed!

I'm still seeing several Minis from that booking number showing a status of Received for Transport. Not sure if it was all of them backlisted or not. pb
