R50/53 Rear Windshield Wiper Fluid
If it wasn't for the rear spoiler on my MCS deflecting the stream, the washer fluid would shoot straight up. At highway speeds, even the spoiler can't catch it and NONE of the washer fluid hits the rear window.
I've tried to move the little slot with my fingernail, but when I do it stops the flow completely.
Has anyone else had similar problems with the read window washer fluid? And if so, is there a solution?
BTW, I'm in Pennsylvania, in the midst of a snow and ice storm. Be nice if I could see out the read window!

My rear washer hits only the lower portion of the rear window... I guess I'll try to adjust it and see if I can get it to cover more of the area... I didn't know it was adjustable...
Thanks for the info...

I thought the half-window thing was a quirk. Somehow the wiper spreads a good portion of the wash stuff up the window - but I still get 1/4 of the area covered by the wiper as nothing but streaks.
Adjustment pics?

I never used the rear wiper
Just like I never used the cd and when I tried it , it did not work
(the parts are in I guess I should go get it fixed)

The washer jet is easliy adjusted.
You need to use something like a needle. A pin may not work as the ball is firmly seated. Insert the pointed end into the orifice of the jet and move as needed. Having someone in the drivers seat to squirt some fluid as you're making the adjustments would be helpful.
The fluid on my MCS only sprayed a little less than half way along the rear blade, leaving the top of the window unwashed. After adjusting, the fluid now squirts along the entire blade length with a resuting clear arc.

That sounds like the standard way of adjusting washer jets...and it reminds me to adjust mine as I too only get 1/2 a window wash (MCS, no aero kit). This is a good idea 'cause I've noticed that the rear of this car gets more road spray than I'd ever expect. Like, most of the car will look pretty good after cleaning, but all I have to do is drive about a mile and the rear is completely dirty. Must have something to do with the rear wheels being so close to the end of the car. So anyway, I use the rear washer quite a bit.
CAREFUL when using that needle to adjust the sprayer ball. I've done this on other cars and once broke the needle off in the hole! I couldn't get the needle out (tried spraying, a magnet, and tweezers with no success) so I had to go to the dealer to buy a new sprayer nozzel. Just a little warning. Good luck.
My back wiper only gets the bottom half of the window, too. Sounds like bad adjustment from the factory. Anyone from MINI corporate listening?
Anyway, I have the same issue with my FRONT fluid nozzles as well. Has anyone else experienced this? Can they be adjusted in the same way as the rear?

I just went down to my baby to take a look because I have the same problem and damn if I could see the nozzle. It is all the way at the base of the wiper. It was kinda dark down there so I may be wrong, but won't you have to remove the wiper to get to that thing to adjust it properly???
I think I might just call the dealer and let them know lots of prople are having problems and see if they are willing to fix it. Mine sprays exactly half the length of the wiper, which means dry salt is being scraped across the rest of the window... how long before it is all scratched up or my wiper blades tear apart???

No need to remove the wiper blade to adjust the jet. This is not a difficult task, but as orbhot mentions above, be a little careful when making the adjustments.
When I did this it seemed that the little ball that contains the orifice may be ratcheted in the socket so you need to exert a little force to get the ball to rotate. The ball seems to click into each new position which made the adjustment that much easier. I used a regular needle (not a pin as that might bend) and had no problems in getting things where they should be.
Good luck.

Hey -- adjusting the rear window wiper jet is
MUCH
easier than was described. Don't bother with a needle -- all you need is a screwdriver or a dime.
If you look at the wiper jet when the wiper is stopped (horizontal) you will see a slot in the top of it. The purpose of this slot is to adjust the azimuth (i.e. "twist"
of the jet. When the slot is parallel to the wiper blade, it will spray the spoiler. When it is twisted about 20 degrees clockwise, it will spray just the lower half of the window.
Mine only covered the bottom half -- the slot was about 20 degrees from the blade. The first attempt at an adjustment put the slot parallel to the blade and overshot the mark, wetting the spoiler and not the glass. An intermediate angle of about 15 degrees (3rd iteration) makes it work perfectly.
The whole time to do the adjustment without help was a few minutes and the only tool needed was a dime.
Hope this helps -- Tom

Good post W3IWI... you beat me to it!!!!! I went out this morning to look at it for myself and realized the nozzle was right there. I use a standard flathead and the adjustment was a piece of cake.
I took a pic for all to see.....

Tom is correct. Just rotate the slot and do not try to use a needle as there is no ball socket. The fronts have ball sockets and are easy to adjust with a pin or needle.
Clean windows are nice!

Well, the nozzle seems to be able to be adjusted with a needle, but perhaps I was really turning the thing with the needle. The slot is certianly a nice touch as a dime fits perfectly just as W3IWI described. I'm bound in tradition I guess.
I didn't know there was a washer in the back. Of course living near San Diego I never have to use the windshield washers. Just thought I'd torque some of you folks who are stuck in the East coast. I lived in Toronto once and have cold memories of spitting on the windscreen and having it freeze as it hit the glass. It is a liitle warm today...Ah well!!!!
Tom,
I wanted to thank you for the information you posted on the adjustment of the rear wiper nozzle. I had an appointment scheduled at my Mini dealer because my rear window was only getting half cleaned at the bottom. It's nice to know that this information is available and that trips to the dealer can be avoided.
Thanks Again!
