Happy new year!

For those of you with the automatic climate control, do you leave the A/C on when you hit the "Auto" button or do you switch it off?

I can't notice a difference and I know the manual says that the A/C will keep the windows clear.

Whatchu think?

I have to agree with the photo...we should not be subjected to that disgustingness. Please consider others when you use something like that.

To answer your question: I turn my A/C off in the winter. I always have heard that A/C causes worse gas milage, and I only need the heat, right now. Summer time will be different.

Apologies, I've removed it. It's how I felt on New Year's Day.

To answer those who've asked, it is from "Scanners".

A/C off in the winter for me. After the disgusting heat we had here this summer I found that it does affect how much gas mileage I get and also my acceleration rate when I am getting on the highway or something. It's all heat for me just now!

Same here. I'm impressed as to how fast the heater gets up to speed (with heat) as well.

No joke....I don't even have the cold weather package and I am thrilled with how fast the MINI heats up. Even when the windows are all frosty.....

In winter, I also generally turn off the A/C for gas mileage and for the "extra" power. However, it can be really helpful to turn it on if the windows are very foggy because it will help dry out the air more. Some cars automatically turn the A/C on whenever you turn on the defrosters for this reason.

I get cranky and irritable when I get hot, so I use the A/C in the summer - damn the gas mileage and power.

I have to agree with Mini2Go about the AutoCC being annoying sometimes. It is the first thing I turn off when I get in the car. I just manually set the temp/fan/direction of the air. Good thing is it remembers how you last set it so you don't have to keep resetting it. Is it me or is the fan in the mini a little noisy (not motor noise, but wind noise)?

My other gripe about the AutoCC is the auto defroster/defogger. It only works on high..... VERY high. I wish there was a way to direct the air to the front glass without have the fan on super way high.... I guess I am a control freak.

cgehring: You can reduce the fan speed by holding down the button for about 5 seconds!!!

That bothered me so much at first, that I played with it until I figured that out!

I have been using the manual setting because of the excessive fan noise on the automatic setting... I aggree the Auto setting doesn't seem to decrease the fan speed...

Mini2go, do you mean that we can hold down the auto setting button for 5 seconds and this will change the fan speed for the automatic setting???

Please let me know, because this sure would be great...

Thanks, Paul

Sorry (for not being more explicit) - no. Hold down the Fan speed button (on the top right) - the minus sign. You can speed it back up holding the plus sign.

AC all the way. There really isnt a place (even cold) that doesnt need AC. Just for the removal of fog from the windsheild. If you are **** like me, nothing EVER touches the windsheild. Only a mild cleaner that produces NO smears. Plus, if it does get hot (or humid), the AC will eliminate it.

Comfort all the way, CATW, MINI is swahili.

A little confusion I think. I believe cgehring was asking in his initial post how to reduce the fan speed when selecting the defroster setting (I assumed he meant manually).

I've gone and screwed it all up. I also told you the WRONG button to hold. ops: ops: ops:

After selecting the the defroster while the light is blinking, hold down THAT button for a few seconds to gain manual control over the defroster fan speed. After you hold it down and the light stays solid, then you can use the +/- buttons to adjust it.

Alas, I do not know how to adjust the AutoCC fan speed either.

Sorry for the misinformation above.

That's great about the fan speed for the defroster... it will help because it was supper loud on the high setting... so that resolves one issue... Thanks for the tip...

If anyone else knows how to control the fan speed on the Automatic setting please let me/us know...

Thanks for the help, Paul
