NOT canceling my order.

Well, my previous thread got shut-down after only three pages, 1,300 views, and 69 responses. Uh...YEAH, there's a bunch of you out there who really need to calm down! To those of you who actually took the time to be adults and tell me about the great experiences you've had with your Mini so far...THANK YOU! To the others ...you can suck on my center-mounted twin JCW exhaust! (Well, when I get it next month, of course) I won't lie, I really was considering canceling my order because I honestly was a little freaked-out with all the issues that have been brought up on this board. However, today after work, I went and test-drove both the MCS as well as my second choice, the 2005 Acura RSX Type S. The Acura is definitely a sexy car...and fast. But after a quick spin in a Mini S, I was convinced I made the right decision, and decided not to cancel my order. Some of you understood where I was coming from and, again, I thank you for that. I seriously never had anything go wrong with my three Civics and '03 RSX, and I abused the hell out of those cars! So, I had my reservations about leaving a car brand that had been so good to me. I'm a very loyal person, but the absolute brilliance of the Mini Cooper S was undeniable, and I just had to know what it was like to be able to drive one on a daily basis. Beginning early next month, I finally will.

Good, I was hoping you wouldn't! You'll LOVE the car, I guarantee you. You picked the best color too! (at least for the two of us)

Glad you decided on the MCS. Ive been building Honda's for 14 years, and this was my first leap out of that world. It was a tough choice, but the CTR isn't in the running here in the states, and although the K20 is a great engine, I was just up for a change. Hope we both enjoy our Minis as much as we have our Hondas

I have been having GF issues and the last couple of days I have gone for long drives in the country to "think." Of all the cars I have had this one is by far the most pleasureable and easiest to "think" in.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine.

Hyper Blue, congrats on your decision. I know you'll enjoy motoring in your MINI. I would appreciate it, though, if you would take it easy with your language and remember to re-read the Site Guidelines.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...age=guidelines

In particular, I'd like you to take note of the following passages:

This is a community of new MINI enthusiasts. The goal of the community is to enhance the ownership of your MINI through the exchange of information. We encourage your participation and request that you respect your fellow enthusiasts in the same manner that you wish to be respected. If, when writing, you think that someone may incorrectly interpret your meaning as being offensive, please use the emotion icons to better express your thoughts.

Respect is Key
The North American Motoring community is a place where you can express yourself...as long as you treat your fellow enthusiasts with respect.

I realize that several members were less than helpful to you in the previous thread, but you need to realize that you self-identified as a Honda person, which threw some folks.

Have fun with your new MINI and with being a part of our fun MINI community! When exactly do you take delivery?

Puleese...

don't allude to some as being less than adults after you childishly rant about not buying one. It's nice you changed your mind, but only an insecure immature individual would have based what they'll buy, not buy on some others bad experiences. Grow up.

I am a Red Sox fan...but I think Sheffield showed a lot of restraint when he had that run in with the fan up in Fenway last week.

I would like to go on record to say that I think Hyper Blue showed a lot of restraint and endurance after that harsh tone, in general, of that other thread

My most memorable MINI spotting was of an HB/W one on Sunset in LA with an effective-looking blonde at the wheel awaiting her turn to make a left. The roof was open. It was a sunny spring day. She and the car were brilliantly highlighted. It made me believe that LA has its moments in paradise.

For years my only car was a Honda Civic wagon. It was one of the most practical, reliable and economical cars I have ever owned. And I could not help but admire its abilities. But even when I was driving that car I was oblivious to other Hondas (except the CRX and NSX--the X Hondas seem to be in a different class). As virtuous as it was I never equated my Honda with moments in paradise.

The MINI I ordered arrives next month. I suspect it will be a far more engaging and entertaining car than my Honda while--according to most automotive periodicals and my philosophical mechanic--not being as practical, reliable and economical for the many years I hope to keep it. So I do not expect my new MINI to be a rolling paradise on the pavement. That might be overwhelming, but just a moment or two would be most satisfyin'.

I think a lot of the responders need to follow this rule.....We are all auto enthusiasts and love the Mini! But also admiring other makes of car, or even "identifying yourself as a Honda guy" is not wrong. Big deal!!!!! There are lots of great cars out there. Let's celebrate a truly great one (Mini), and not trash other people whose opinion is different than our own.

I'm glad you drove one again (I think I suggested that). Anyway, when you get yours... it's even better than the test drive. Good luck!

If I may add: calling someone an idiot in another thread doesn't lay the proper groundwork for friendly discourse.

Good choice. Unless Acura brings over the Type-R's again, forget it.

Those TypeS's with that special package is pretty good, but they are just that...just pretty good. A MCS with even just a few bolt-ons is awesome.

One of many reasons why that thread was locked.

And before anyone comments on restraint by Hyper Blue, his original post was edited by the NAM moderation team to show said restraint...

However, THAT is not the point of this thread. Let's try to keep this one civil and on topic or it will be going away as well...

Congrats!!!!

You'll love it..... But other cars are fun too!

2002 MCS - The best all arounder I've ever owned.

1965 Mustang Convetable - modded up the wazooo! This is a blast, but in a different way. Classic car, EFI power and realibility, but not as practical (leaky roof) and less refined.

1975 Fiat 124 Spyder. - First convertable. Nice car if you keep it up. The only way I am ever going to get a lovely flowing Italian body. I can't seem to get around to sell it........

1992 Ford Explorer Sport- Great value. Best I ever had in any new car. Sufferend a bit in the handling department.

2001 Acura MDX. Much better handling than the Explorer. Very happy wife. Interior is too nice to treat like I did the explorer. Don't know if I'd get one again. (just too many nice things out there)

198somthing Porsche 944. Best balanced car I've every owned. If it were a Turbo, I'd probably still have it!

1999 Honda Civis SI. Tons of fun. Crappy seats. No head room, but VTEC Vroom. I couldn't stand it because my hair hit the headliner. My wife was shorter, and was sad to see it go. But nice car, nice handling, nice performance, and excellent resale!

1982? VW Rabbit. Tossable fun. Alot like the Mini, but not as nice, or as fun. But a small front drive box that was more practical than the size would indicate.

1976 Toyato Corolla - was a true Hemi, ony 1.6 litres, but it would smoke a 2 liter Vega!

I've owned them all, and liked them all in thier own way, some more than others. I'll have more before my time is up too. The Mini is a nice car, but it's not perfect. Some have already moved onto other cars, like the Elise.

So you'll love your Mini. But there will surely be a car that you love as much or more that does,t say Mini on it as well.

Good luck, and have fun!

Matt

You might have sold the 944 turbo too. I heard those things are a bear to maintain.

On that note, I was looking at a track only type of car and the 944 was one of the cars on the list.

Congrats on your choice. The husband's car is a 1999 Honda Civic Si. Nice vehicle, but it's no MINI. And it has not been trouble free these years: Clutch had to be replaced at 70K, tranny rebuilt at 130K. I would argue that those problems had a lot to do with the driver (my husband), but some problems exist in every car.

Unless every single one of those horror stories you read on here happen to you, I don't think you will regret your decision.

Ditto. This car is the easiest to "think" espically when you go riding to figure out different issues or sort out problems or just get away from everything.

I used to hate driving long distances. Sure, a quick spin through a back road, then back home was fine, but I wouldn't spend hours and hours out. Well, after school, I just took off and went to a state park about 20 miles from school, then I thought of some beautiful county roads I used to love driving on near my old home town, so I drove down there, then I remember that the dogwoods are pretty this time of year in yet another town farther away from home, so I headed there. That road was straight and flat for miles, perfect to see what my top speed is (135 on the speedo). Then I headed back home via some gravel roads and slid around all the turns. Total tally for today: 130 miles in 2 hours. And what's even better is I found a place not too far where premium gas is under $2.

Trust me, you will have a LOT of fun. This car has a way of making every day feel like a weekend.
