R50/53 How many of you paid under/over MSRP?
How many of you paid under/over MSRP?
I'm just curious as to how much variation there is.
Also, does dealer 'fees' count as adding to MSRP (mandatory fees).
Momentum (owned by Sonic Group) has a $450 fee tacked on, but apparently it covers loaners for 4yr/50k when in for warranty or service, as well as paint / interior protection for 2 years (bugs/bird poo on paint, anything inside they cant clean gets replaced). So i dont feel totally screwed, as long as they hold up their end when it comes down to it!

I took delivery of my new '05 MCS 4 weeks ago and paid MSRP plus $299 dealer fee that includes paperwork processing, wash/detail and a new set of floor mats. The dealer is Lauderdale MINI in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. After the first MINI I purchased, I am no longer required to place a deposit on any new MINI order, due to my "repeat" VIP customer status with them.
I have ordered and purchased 3 brand new MINIs from them in the past 3 years and have always paid MSRP plus $299 dealer fee. Lauderdale MINI will never tack on or force you to purchase overpriced accessories that you don't need or want, unlike some other MINI dealers in Florida that still cling to those sales tactics.
Don't discard the possibility from ordering your MINI from an out of state dealer either.
There have been very few and far in between cases where people have been able to get a new MINI for under MSRP. The typical scenarios are non-negotiable MSRP pricing to the Customary California mark-up in the thousands of dollars.

Stick to your guns and try to negotiate this seemingly bogus charge or at the very least ask for a $200 discount
Shop around, it pays big time.
I paid MSRP + $150 doccument fee for my first. The second was MSRP minus a $500 repeat customer discount and a $150 doccumrnt fee. DON'T pay anymore than MSRP plus a minimal Doccument fee. If you do, you're getting ripped off!!!
ripley.

I paid exactly MSRP. No hidden costs. Build my car on www.miniusa.com and purchased thru MINI North Scottsdale. Sure I haid to wait in line, but I didn't pay a penny over what the miniusa.com web site said I should pay.
I want to add that on this last MINI purchase, the dealer gave me the Union Jack roof flag, the MINI iPod adaptor and an extra set of MINI rubber floor mats for free
Also they gave me a super cool MINI Chronograph wrist watch the day I took the car home. So, in all and all, they gave me close to $1K worth of freebies

I paid under MSRP by about $250, so in the end, I paid what most everone else paid w/ a document fee (but less taxes!). I also got diddly squat so far in extras, I'm going in today to pick up my plates, so I'm gonna pester the SM for some rubber mats and for gods sakes, my MINTS!
The document fee is a totally bogus fee along with every other fee they charge. All of the dealer prep fees and other add ons are just extra ways for them to get more money, that just a few years ago was the cost of doing business. Are we getting anything extra for the bogus fees? No. Not only are the car prices going up, but the salesman in most dealerships are lame (just sit around waiting for customers and can't tell you anything about the cars), but now we have to pay extra fees to get the privilege to by a car. Instead of adding it to the price of the car, they add it on afterwards and give it fancy names to not make it look so bad. I think the practice is the same as gouging the customer. Come on. A $500 dealer prep fee? Forget it. My first one I bought, I paid the $500 prep fee, and it took them a whole 1 hour to unload it off the truck, prep the car and have it ready in the showroom. Add onto that the fact that the guys prepping the car were minimum wage employees, does not constitute the $500 prep fee. They are already making $2000 or more on the car itself, and it didn't even sit on the lot and become an expense for them. The dealership also tried to charge me a doc fee, which I refused. I handed them a check for the amount of the car, and they still wanted to charge a $250 doc fee. Sorry, that is the cost of doing business in my book. And I am sick and tired of companies passing on every little fee and lowering their quality. Whatever happened to the day you could buy a car and it was all polished up for you in the parking lot with car mats and you bought it for under sticker. All of the other items they charge you for like paint protection is a whole lot of crap also. Bring in your car about 3 months later and tell them about the paint protection, no one will know what you are talking about in service. Also, what is up with the shop supplies fee that all of these BMW/Mini dealerships are now charging. What the heck! Doesn't the $150 an hour I pay you cover shop supplies like towels. It sure as heck isn't getting paid to the techs. So my hourly rate goes to pay for the technicians, the overhead of the shop/facility, supplies, and now an additional overhead on supplies. Give me a break! I argue that one every time I get charged it, because it wasn't specifically listed in the work order that I signed when they gave me a price quote for the work. The whole practice is a sham, and another way to extract more money from people, especially when the car is in demand. If a dealership is willing to charge you MSRP, maybe even a markup, and extra fees when the car is in demand, but willing to waive fees and mark the car down significantly when there is an excess, that is not customer service. And I guarantee you every Mini dealership does it, no matter how much you like you advisor and how nice they were too you. A prime example is the MC40. Started out marked up (I saw some up to $3000 over sticker, and once they started sitting on the lot, a lot of them were going for $3000-$4000 under sticker with no fees). Yeah I am bitter, because I think the whole industry is a sham. Granted I like a lot of people at the various dealerships including Classic Mini, where I bought my last one, but it is pretty sad, what the customer has to face nowadays, and the push for corporations to extract ever last cent (not by increasing quality because that costs money), by tacking on every fee imaginable.
We paid $2495 over... We NEEDED a car THAT DAY, and bought one off the lot, loaded with every option except Sat Nav. We had three MINI's to choose from.
We got floor mats including boot, cup holder, windshield sun shade, wheel locks as part of the "dealer package".
Our next MINI purchase will be more reasonable, as we are willing to wait for a special order.
But this time, we were desperate!

MSRP + $100 document fee. However, I got a lot of goodies. Italian Job DVD, 4 Rubber Floor mats, margarita kit (not a MINI item, but a joke between my MA and I), two model cars, and great great service. Thanks Classic MINI!!!
Paid...

On both MINIs we purchased, both were at MSRP - no dealer add on's other than the things we wanted....
Both were purchased at Sterling MINI in VA.
