Auto Unlock not available?

I just picked up my MCSC yesterday . Anyway, I had sent a list to the dealer with the options I wanted programmed including having the doors auto unlock when the car is turned off. When I picked it up this was not working. I was then told that this option is only available across the pond and not in the States. I have read quite a few posts here and have not read anything to verify this. Can anyone confirm or refute this?
If I can't have the auto unlock, I may have them remove the auto lock.
So far, this is my only frustration and I am not too bothered by it because I really love everything else about the car. Now, if it would just stop raining....

For those of you who are interested

He's full of ....

My '04 didn't have the auto-unlock enabled when I picked it up.
It did by the time I left the dealership.
Ask him to try again.

Automatic unlock option.

In Feb. I had my 2005 MCS options; for auto unlock on ignition off and the gong sounds on low fuel, set. I learned of these options upon a MINI2 link. They are great, you stop the car, turn the ignition off, and the doors and tail gate unlock. Gotta love that. The fuel gong is pretty neat too, same as the temperature gong when near freezing outside temps.
However I am unable to get the total list of options from my dealer.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. I will be contacting the dealership after I make sure that the rest of the car's set-up is how I wanted it. He was probably thinking of the auto up windows instead of listening to what I was saying.

This thread has a list of all of the options that I know of.[size=2]

I like that fuel gong option....I think that if my '04 could be programmed for that I would know about it, but just in case, does anyone know if other years than an '05 be programmed for the low fuel gong?

Yes, it should be available for other model years - I want to say that it might have even been available all the way back to the '02s, but I can't verify that.

There are a bunch of options. A Search either here or on Mini2 will get you a comprehensive list.

Word of warning: I used this list...and still didn't get all the options I wanted because my MA or service tech (I don't know which) wasn't aware of some of them.

Remember, with all the info on these MINI sites, YOU may be better informed of all your options than your MA or tech at your dealer.

I too wanted auto unlock at ignition off and their interpretation of this was to disable my auto lock at ignition off.

The difference: Auto unlock at ignition off: unlocks your doors so you don't have to do the "MINI Two Pull" to open.
Auto Lock at ignition off: Automatically locks the doors after after you turn off the ignition after a certain amount of time. Theoretically these two options should work well together both active.

Make sure you test options that you requested at the dealer when you pick up the car...and be a pest if you have to. Depending on the dealer, you may have only one chance to get it right (free). Remember at many dealerships, after the first time (when you pick up your car) you are charged for further mods.

I certainly am not willing at this point to pay $100.00 (usual minimum BMW service dept charge) to get my doors to lock or unlock automatically

I agree, I am not willing to pay $100 for this either. Since I did specifically ask them while I was there and they told me it wasn't possible I think/hope that I can get it done for free. Besides, it give me a reason to drive to the dealership. I should call them now and see what they say......

I tried to have Crown MINI in Richmond enable this option for me and they said they could not because it was a "safety issue". Pretty funny since you can definitely get the car without auto lock at 10 MPH on it so the end result is the same, the car is unlocked.

That's REALLY funny, because in February, Crown enabled that exact function for me! Kevin was my MA, and I can't remember the name of the woman, but she was aware of the function, and confirmed it wasn't enabled. I gave them my printed list of the functions I wanted and voila!

Well, I did not give them "all 5's" as they begged me to do and I gave them a minor beat-down about the feature in the comments section on the survey. Maybe they decided to check into it since then?

I think this is the root of the issue here. I just went back and asked a technician about this option - and he said (paraphrased): Well, I'm not sure - it sounds familiar so I think it might be available - but until I hook up a car to the diagnostic unit and search, I'm not sure. There are so many options - and they can vary from year to year, that it is difficult to keep track.

From my experience as an MA, I can also tell you that there is very little technical training - especially not on the stuff that the service department has to handle - and MINI certainly doesn't provide a list of these options for us to see. ...It was also difficult after working 12 hours (plus time for the commute) to go home and sit on the forums to keep up with stuff - and still maintain some semblance of a life. (The collective wealth of information here from all the individual experiences is often very very helpful even to those of us who work for a MINI dealership).

The real trick is getting the folks to either take your word for it or to at least humor you by taking a moment to look (and having the intiative to take the time to possibly learn something new).

Well, I just got off of the phone with our local MINI dealership and was discussing the fact that some of you have had this option enabled. He said that he thinks it is not enabled on the convertible. I asked him to check with the service guys again. So.... if anybody out there with a drop top has Auto-Unlock enabled please let me know so I can fight with some ammo.

Well I read about auto unlock on NAM and mini2 and my MA said it wasn't available in the US too. (I checked numerous times with MA and tech)

I have a convertible and I have to double pull or flip the toggle and then pull the door. Honestly, I thought it was going to be a royal pain in the *** to double anything, but I LOVE it. I just love LOVE my odd little MINI! It's special -- on the short bus!!

Sure, I could ask my local dealership about seing if they offer auto unlock, but I won't. I'll keep my MINI interesting and quirky.

You gotta love the look on a passengers face when they try to get out of your MINI. I can't even count how many times i would look over and first somebody would spend about 10 seconds just trying to figure out what was the door handle. Then when they pull it for the first time and the door doesn't open they really go HUH?

The double-pull was driving me crazy. Having the doors unlock when I turned off the car was a blessing. I lived with it for months but never really got used to having to pull the handle twice. Never failed that my passenger would just pull harder the second time . Seemed odd to me that people would just think pulling harder the second time would get them out but it always did.

Unlike SwingMCS, my passengers tend to either:
a) rip the freaking door pull off on the first try
or
b) attempt to crush the armrest while trying to rip the freaking door pull off

The look on MY face was far worse than the look on theirs.
These in the few instances that I'm dropping off a new passenger (i.e. at the airport) thus I don't turn off the car.

I'm bringing my car up to my dealer tomorrow to have this turned on.My Motoring Advisor is really cool.He handles a lot of the tri state area BY HIMSELF but always calls me back when I leave a message. They owe me a freebie because the tech dimpled my drivers' door from the inside out while changing the window regulator.Bill said it would be $30 to turn on the auto-unlock but they would do it for free because I had my DentWizard guy fix it down here.I don't know if it's because I work at a new car dealer too,(GM/Hyundai) that he's cool with me.I do know that's why Lynn in their parts dept is.

not to hijack, but related

Twice, I've had my dealer supposedly set my locks (03 MCS) to unlock all doors with a single press. It works from the toggle, but not from the remote. Anybody have it working with the remote?

Noper - gotta press 2x on the key-remote, to open ALL with the remote. I think you're dealer is misunderstanding what you want. Just get him to set you up so that the doors lock at 10mph and "auto-unlock" when you turn off the engine, and you'll be set
