Pt Loser!!! Love That One!!!
That thread is an argument no one will win, just as a PT owner coming here and trying to get into the same type of thread in hopes of winning an argument. Some of those guys are pretty ignorant though with the PT's...every time someone said that they beat a WRX, Audi, etc.. in their MINI, some PT owner called bull**** and immediately assumed they were talking about the 1/4 mile...that was funny
The thing is, Road and Track, Car and Driver, Motortrend, etc...are not to be fully trusted in their reviews on how fast a car will do the 1/4 mile, or the 0-60 times...it's the driver that makes a difference...I can squeeze better times out of an MCS than what was quoted in those magazines, but only because I've been 1/4 mile racing legally at tracks for years, and know how to get the 60fts, know how to prep the car, etc...none of this was in a MINI, because I don't own one yet
, but really, same difference. Those articles the PT guys love to quote about times were done with no weight reductions, no race prep, and with two people in the car at times
Anyways, it's irritating just talking about it...but good post, I laughed out loud a few times during that reading

I love this quote from the thread:
"They drive a glorified BMW."
But yea, I agree, I hope some of the posters over there weren't from here.
MINI owners shouldn't resort to bashing someone elses ride, especially on thier turf (forum). Imagine if the Lotus Elise crowd came here and started ******* on us?

you do know that the MINI & the PT both run a Tritec motor?
Maybe the PT has something different in a pumped version?

Comparing a PT to a MCS is comparing
apples
and "oranges".

I do like apples better though...
Yup, got no interest in PT's, except I thought maybe more engines means more parts and better availability. & maybe cheaper.
It never occurred to me that anybody besides Americans might buy a PT Cruiser!

HOWEVER, the PT has a 5-speed Getrag
. Can I get parts for my 5-speed Getrag out of a PT?
LOL. Seeing as how you're average joe tends to lump the MINI, the Beetle, and the PT Cruiser into the same category, I do sometimes wonder as I drive by a PT Cruiser whether the person feels any competition (as some drivers certainly do, SUV drivers etc). It's funny to me, because I would never even consider the two cars to be in the same class, so I wouldn't even consider comparing them.

No matter what numbers came up for all the cars in the tests they were put through, all the critics said they liked the way the MINI drove best and put smiles a mile wide on their faces.

Pretty funny, images of people arguing behind keyboards come to mind. Those posts do get tiring. I have a 2001 PTC and really like it, that is until I drove a Mini. No comparison. It took me a few years, but I’m at the point of ‘just gotta have a Mini’. I’m just waiting for a nice weekend to get some nice pictures of it so I can put it up for sale. Once I get a buyer, then it’s down to my Mini dealer for a ‘S’!

2 conclusions I came away with after reading that thread
1. I always thought the PT Cruiser was one ugly machine. Now I kinda respect it and it is growing on me.
2. Dare I say it, but even MINI owners can be jacka$$es. No excuse for the "win at all costs" approach of some of those posters, especially as guests on someone else's boards.
I think PT and MINI owners have a common element--individuality, we are tired of the uniform box-shaped boring cars of the masses. I think MINI stands for more than that, including safety and environment friendly, but in the end they have more in common than other cars have in common. I really enjoyed the R&T article because I was planning to buy a Beetle Turbo for a long time before the MINI and I love their styling to this day.
