Was it in a valet parking lot? Remember this?

Sounds like a weak battery in the fob.

You can extend the range of your remote by placing and pressing your key under your chin then pressing the button.
I have unlocked and put the windows down at better than 30+ yards while walking toward my MINI.

It seems that I could usually practically open my windows/sunroof from a quarter mile away, until of course when I'm trying to show-off to someone, then it doesn't work when I'm standing next to the car!

Yeah, I think the corollary is that it'll work by accident from 1/4 mile, but the 'on-purpose' range is limited to a few feet.

So i just went outside after reading that one and tried it. Although it didn't work for me (perhaps i don't have enough metal in my mouth) I did notice my sorority girl neighbors giggling at me through the window

At our MINI club's meeting in January we all came out to the parking lot from eating and the new '05 in our club had the windows down a few inches. The owner said this had happened a few times since they got the car. Pat (SndWave) said it was a vent feature. He got in the car, put the key in the ignition and did something with the switches to make that feature go away.

Pat, you out there - what did you do?

I've done a little bit of programming, and I RECOGNIZE that quote: "it's not a BUG, it's a FEATURE" Right on.

I wonder if there was any alcohol served at that Club's dinner .

Now, maybe if we were talking about the BAtmobile... instead of a car acting "batty"...

Happened to me today. I returned from a two day business trip, got to the long term parking lot. My windows were down 4 or 5 inches and the sun roof was open. Unless I did it from Detroit (parked in St. Louis) or from the airplane as we flew over, I don't think I accidently pressed the button. The key was in my hand from the terminal to the garage. No other Mini's around.

I worked with a guy once who had left his windows down (I don't think he had ac) and it started to rain...all day. If that weren't bad enough, he managed to park beside a downspout that came down from a building and stopped about four feet above the ground and yes..kicked out towards the open car window. I SWEAR this is TRUE. When he opened his door that afternoon, what looked like a thousand gallons of water came pouring out! Not MINI related but better get a handle on that window thing!

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts
With stoutest wrists and loudest boasts
He thrusts his fists against the post
and still insists he sees the ghost... !

Seriously though, some ppl ought to be emailing their MA's to find out if there's a "pattern" to this potentially disastrous problem. I'll check up on it and get back to you soon.

"Computer guys" try very hard to rely on logic. It really (I mean really) bugs me when something novel happens on my system, and we eventually "FIX" it but without ever understanding the root cause. There IS always a root cause, at least I hope there is ... We'll see.

Haunted MINIs... bah!
