You can do donuts in the Mini, but it requires the ebrake. I have done them in the snow, wet and on dry ground. It isn't a true donut because you can't keep it up with the application of power. This is nearly impossible to do with a front drive. First, because of the power being applied to the front of the car and not the rear wheels, and Second, because most front drive cars understeer.
Don't have my Mini yet but in my DelSol I would get going about 5mph in reverse then hit the gas and crank the wheel. You spin around really fast, it's fun.
