Spare Tire (Donut?) for my 2015 F56 JCW

Has anyone been able to locate a spare tire (or a collapsible one) that will fit my 2015 Mini Cooper JCW in case of a tire blowout? The Calipers are huge and I know that with my old one (2013 R56 JCW) the standard Cooper donut tire could have been installed as a rear wheel so if you had a front tire problem, you would have had to remove the rear tire first, mount the spare donut tire then take the rear wheel and mount it in the front. Can this be achived with the new ones? Where (or who) sells a donut for the new, 5 lug pattern that is fount on the F56 body?

Thanks,

Ron

R,
OUTMOTORING has the temp spare on their web site for about $140, carrier/storage bag $70. it indicates that the unit fits the F56/f55 models but you would probably have to do the old switcheroo and us it only on a rear position. The site advisors can provide more specific fit restrictions.

Best price and service I found for a donut spare was at Waymotorworks.com. Good luck.

Thank you for the info - I am hopeful that someone has already done it and has experienced the usual fitment issues. I also found this tire http://www.detroittuned.com/mini-coo...re-tire-5-lug/ and it will also require switching the rear tire to the front in case of a flat front.

Will wait and see if anyone has anything to add.

Ron

Hey Ron

I have a 11 JCW. So you say you can use a base model MC donut on the rear wheel and clears the brakes OK? Just not on the front.

Thanks

The answer is YES. The standard spare of the R56 fits the rear wheels / location.

Same with the F56.

You could try a donut or collapsible from a Benz.

Spare wheel is here : 36116851506 take a 115/70/15 tire size.

If you have JCW brakes / Cooper S brakes or any other brake clearance issues this wheel can be switched out on the rear and the good wheel can be placed on front.

We offer a full ready to go spare tire option for $118, IN STOCK and ready to ship.

Detroit Tuned 5 Lug Spare Tire

Any route you go it is always recommended that the spare be rotated to the back on FWD cars.

We installed a JCW brake kit on an F55 last week and test fitted our spare so we know it will fit on the rear no problem.

nkfry - That spare setup would solve most of the flat tire problem, but not all of it. Do you happen to also offer a usable jack and good lug-wrench?

We offer the MINI jacks and lug wrenches, but in my experience the OE lug wrench is really only useful for throwing your back out on the side of the road. I keep a breaker bar in the car. These are the space saving options, but you can find a small jack at your local auto parts store to keep in the car, keep in mind it will be an eye sore and always in the way. There is always the option of having roadside assistance on your insurance plan.

Good info! Where do you mount the donut spare? Does it fit under the trunk liner, or do you just have to let it sit somewhere in the rear cabin of the car?

Most people just run it in the trunk with a couple bungee cords. If you do make sure its strapped down all the way so it will not move at all.

F54 Clubman wheel?

Hi nkfry,

I tried to calculate total diameter of the wheel at https://tiresize.com/calculator/ , it gives 541mm .
On my F56 Cooper S (year 2014) I have standard 205/45R17 which totals to 617mm.
Which means that if one side mounted with the spare and the other with the original - there is 23mm height diff ((617-541)/2) .
Is it at all OK to drive like this, even at 50mph ???

I saw Clubman F54 has a different rim, 3.5 X 17, with probably the same bore 66.6mm and same PCD 5x112, but offset 18. With a fitting tire 125/70/17, giving the total diameter of 607mm .
Do you know whether this wheel actually fits Cooper S (not JCW) 2014, F56 ?

Thanks for both advices!

On a MINI:

If you get a flat on the front, you move the rear tire to the front, and use the space saver spare on the rear.
Especially JCWs with big brakes, the spare won't work on the front.

I just did this whole thing. First of all even though WMW said they were in stock after not sending any updates and me reaching out on when it will be shipped they said the tire is on back order with no ETA.

Then one quick phone call to Outmotoring they not only had it but match WMW price and shipped it same day arriving 2 days later.

I then ordered a cheap tire bag on Amazon. They sent me 4 so if someone pays the shipping they can have the others. Three people can get a free bag.

I also bought a scissor jack from Walmart, canvas duffel bag and a collapsible lug tool so I am all set. It does sit just fine in the trunk. Stays put but I suppose you could bungee it as well.

Test fitment was perfect. The scissor jack put up front will lift up the entire side. You can move the back to the front and yes the spare mounts and fits on the back no problem.

Cheers.

I use my cargo net to hold it down.
