Oh, sweetie!!! This is devastating news! I am SO sorry to hear about Scooter. For those that don't know, Scooter was one of the first MCSs delivered to the US back in 2002. Please keep us posted on what happens. I am shocked!

Donna & Mike,

I'm one of those folks who read your frequent posts and I feel that I know you personally.
Thankfully you are both OK and the MINI can be replaced.
You are certainly in our thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I also have a very early build date, 1/16/02 so please keep us posted as to what happened. Now I'm worried. I'm glad no one was hurt and nothing else caught fire.

Ollie will sport a black ribbon (and flame-retardant bonnet lining! ) in honor of Scooter.

D/M... that is SO HORRIBLE!

I'm so sad for you -- and, as everyone, really happy to hear that you guys were nowhere near him when he...umm... expired.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about that! Keep all of us posted on what the FD says. I'm curious as what they have to say! It's just very odd how your car can just catch fire with it not running!

I'm so glad that none of you were in the car and you all are all right. That's the main thing. Hope for a quick replacement!

Wouldnt the majority or so of internal heat have dissipated after 45-50 minutes?

I saw you post this morning as I was catching up on MINI news. I'm floored. I too have some very good memories of buzzing around in Scooter with you guys. After placing the deposit at Sterling in April 02, I was sitting at a light when a little CR/W MCS came rolling up along side. Donna was driving Scooter. My "First Contact" with another MINI owner. Mike took me for a ride across the Dragon in Scooter at the gathering two years ago. At club and other get to gethers - Scooter was the Red Fun Flag.

I am very sad to hear about your loss. I am very relieved to read that there was no one in the car.

Soooooooooooo sorry to hear about the fire D/M . Poor Scooter - he was such a bad-*** little ride. I have some good memories of him as well.

Glad nobody was hurt and no other objects were burned. Best of luck getting the situation resolved ,

Just saw this thread and was not sure if this was mentioned earleier but FORD was having trouble with their F-150 trucks catching fire after they were parked for a while because of faulty wiring staying 'hot' even with the car off. There is a big recall. here is a quick link I found. http://www.vehicle-injuries.com/ford-150-fire.htm

I dont know if something like this happened to your car.

In any even as many have said, it could have been worse. You are safe and noone got hurt! and as much as you enjoyed your mini( I am sure ALOT), it can be replaced with a new one, and you will be smiling again in no time.

Good luck with the insurance and the process of getting the new Scooter

There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said, but please know how many NAM mambers are sorry for your loss of Scooter. I hope the fire investigators, insurance and everyone else make this as smooth a process as possible for you two.

Donna and Mike, so sorry to hear this! One less Red Mini S in the world. And a good at that!

My sisters Expedition did this same thing, except it was in their garage at the time. Burned down half the house before the fire department got the fire out. So it could be worse.

Am I reading you correctly when you say you're not sure of the replacement vehicle? Thinking of another make? Good luck with your decision, it'll be a hard one to make.

Oh and on the "we're not sure California's the place for us" thoughts. No way! You guys are home, at the best possible place in California. You're not shoveling snow, and even when you have bad things happen here, you still have that wonderful ocean air to drive a way the blues.

You're in a lot of thoughts today. Keep us posted.

Very sorry to hear this.

IIRC, isn't there a member here that is rebuilding a BRG Copper who had a fuel related fire under the hood? "CrispyCooper" or something?

So sorry about Scooter. Hope the cause is identified soon because that's just too weird. I can't imagine how sunk you must have felt when you saw him all charred up. Glad you're safe, though.
