Here's the deal: Just drove my new Cooper S home about 300 miles and loved every minute of it. But then I take a closer look at my toggle switches and it hits me...my second switch says ASC, not DSC. That's right, here in Mexico the sport package includes everything EXCEPT DSC...Hell I even have rear fog lights and a full set of toggles, but no DSC!..
Anyway now I'm feeling kinda bummed 'cause I kinda figured I'd be getting DSC and now I don't know if I'm gonna miss it. Apparently It's not even an option 'round these parts although we pretty much get everything else..
So my question is, for all of you lucky first-worlders with DSC: Is it really all that important/useful? Will I feel forever short-changed without it? Will it affect the performance of my car in a negative manner? I realize of course that this is a safety feature, but how much difference does it really make? Is it basically useless unless It snows? I mean how likely/easy is it really to side or spin out on twisty dry roads? I've heard a couple people say that they're not too crazy about their DSC to begin with and they end up shutting it off most of the time..
Anyway, if anyone has an opinion I'd love to hear your two pesos ..er.. cents.

Well depending on your driving skill and driving condition. If you don't get much snow...(does it snow in mexico?? not much of a traveler myself) then is probably ok.

Calvin77, I would not worry too much about it. If you read the Owners Manual the function of ASC and DSC are very similar, you can only have one or the other. I hear guys who take their MINI to autocross; they switch off the ASC or DSC because it slows the engine power down when the wheels start loosing traction. Just enjoy your new toy; you're not missing anything.

Part of my start-up ritual is turning off the DSC. Unless it is really icy, you don't need it. In fact it is kind of a pain in the butt. It is really easy to correct a slide in this car, so you're not missing anything unless you do something really silly  No speed limit? Enjoy!

Would have to agree with jceviche and S-car-go on their comments, I personally chose not to have DSC... Mainly because where i come from, the last time it snowed was maybe 1 million years BC!

I guess just like Mexico...

Motor On Buddy!! & Enjoy!!!

No speed limit? That's the place to be.

If I send you my speeding tickets, will they magically go away?

Thanks for your info...by the way, how did you choose NOT to have DSC? By your signature It seems you have the sport package which supposedly includes DSC...Can you "remove" it from the package?
