Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of checking out the Cooper S. I'm thinking through options and colors, etc. I've been reading though the forums for a while and enjoying all of the great info. I'm curious, what other cars have you owned before the MCS?

Myself, I've owned two Miatas, an MR2 Turbo, a 944, a 911SC, a 911 C4, an M Coupe, and now a Boxster, which the Cooper S might be replacing.

Regards,

--Josh

i currently have a few cars. it seems when i get one i keep it. some days start old and go new just to see how the times change and the cars get so much better. then other days i start out new and go to old and have so much fun trying to see which one i like the most but they all have different ways of making you enjoy them. we have a 36 desoto airflow, 56 austin healey 100, 61 vw convert, 68 buracuda convert, 69 vw vanagan with all the camper stuff, 85 toyota truck. 91 miata brg, 2000 toyota truck, and now my mini is on its way. should add another chapter to my driving experience. all cars are currently in very good shape and a pleasure to drive and show. brg mcs light body

Hi Josh!

Welcome to MCO! We have a great time here and I know you'll fit right in... We also have an '88 Isuzu Trooper and a '91 Corvette. I was driving the Trooper before MINIclo arrived...now when I get in her, she feels big and baggy and tippy! I am SO adjusted to the MINI's lower center of gravity and she doesn't seem at all small to me! Hubby drives the Vette and the Trooper now. Have you driven the MINIs yet? SO MUCH FUN!!!!

Cheers!

Eh Josh, greetings from Canada. Welcome aboard there laddy. Good buncha info and people round these parts.
Myself, I sold a '01 SVT Lightning for the Cooper'S' I have now. Both have their advantages. Dispite the raw thrust the Lightning has, I'm super pleased with the fun factor of driving my Cooper'S'. Nothing compares. Handles and drives like a dream. Welcome to the team.
Cheers,

hello, josh. My college car was a 57 Ford Fairlane 500. Since then, I've had fun in a 914 Porsche, a 356B Porsche, a 911 S Targa Porsche, VW Scirocco, Toyota MR2 Turbo, a few SUVs...but most recently, sold my Toyota Sequoia for a liquid yellow MCS...without a doubt, the most fun of them all. Better get you one. Jim

Between me and the hubby, we've owned:

1974 Chevy Vega
1981 Datsun 310 DX
1986 Mazda 626 LX
1987 Mazda 626 LX
1990 Toyota Celica GTS (Sweeeet!)
1991 Toyota Tercel DX
1992 Mazda Miata
1996 BMW Z3 (we'll keep this one when MINI arrives)

The Datsun we drove into the ground. It was a rust bucket and there was a gaping hole in the dash where our stereo had been before it was stolen. The fuel gauge hadn't worked in a long time and one day we ran out of gas. We pushed the car onto a side street, hubby pulled the parking brake, and SPROING! the cable snapped. Well, the regular brakes basically were already kaput, and we had been using the parking brake to help us stop the car. We managed to get $500 for it.

The Miata was traded in for the Z3 after it sat in a parking lot with the lights on. That tiny little motorcycle battery was completely drained. Hubby had had a bad day, so he got a jump, drove straight to Patrick BMW, and traded it in. Wasn't I surprised when he called to say he hoped I didn't mind if my Miata didn't come home!

So we can proudly say that we traded in one car because we ran out of gas, and another because the battery died!

Ah... I had forgotten a couple and didn't want the list to be incomplete:

85 Toyota MR2
78 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce (different car from the other one, White vs. Black)
82 Saab 900 Turbo
92 Ford Aerostar Van (tow car)

And the Renault 8 I actually owned twice, so does that count for 2?

The first car I drove regularly was a 1988 Citroen AX. It was light, very basic, not very powerful (a small 1100cc engine), but fun to drive in a quirky way. Then I moved to the US in 1997 and had to make do with basic transportation, a used 1992 Chevy Beretta, 4 banger 5 speed. Its been very cheap, and surprisingly, very reliable, but scores a big 0 on the fun scale (I was able to live with this fact by adding a motorcycle to my collection of vehicles, a 1997 Honda Magna). On top of things it has developed a long list of non-fatal, but highly annoying problems. I'll be starting a new job in January, and my financial situation will change dramatically, so first thing to go is the Beretta. With the budget I gave myself, the MCS scored highest on the fun & cool scales, so my decision was easily made. I am awaiting delivery (end of December/start of January) of a brand spanking new MCS. Good luck with your decision.

I've had:
80 Grand Prix
82 Regal
68 Tempest 4dr hardtop (bought for $100)
80 Cadillac Sedan De Ville
87 Cadillac Brougham
92 Accord EX
90 Subaru Legacy (still got it, my city/winter 'beater')

My accord was a conservative looking 'rice rocket' withe the usual suspension mods, and a Prelude VTEC engine swap. That car was quick, handled pretty well, and was a lot of fun, but my MCS, although not as quick off the line, blows it away in the handling and fun dept.
