Is MINI an obsession for you too?

I started getting interested in Mini Cooper only a few months ago. I saw a Cabrio S and something happened to me. I never considered MINI would be a car that I would want to own, but all of a sudden, BANG!!

I'm over a year away from being able to order one, but I think about it all of the time. I spend time on the web looking at pictures of them, checking out the MIMI's on Ebay, hang around this site, etc... I know exactly what I'm going to get, although the color is not 100% set in my mind. That changes monthly...

Do any of ou feel the same way? It is truly an obsession.

Regards, Glenn

I believe the affliction is called M.O.D.. Mini Obsession Disorder. You can limit the severity by staying away from your computer.

Wait till you actually get one. I swear it's like I joined a cult ever since getting my MCS in November...a good cult mind you! Everyone waves, beeps and honks which takes a bit of getting used too. That combined with all the attention you get from other motorists really makes you feel like a rock star!

It is an obsession. I looked at cars to buy about a year before I was ready too, I was considering a Infinity G35 Coupe, Marcedes C230 Kompresser, etc. I went to the LA Auto show January 8th '05 and on January 9th I bought my MINI Cabrio. It has been true love ever since, I have never loved another car THIS much.

Good luck with the selection process and this is a great place to hang out in the mean time.

I find MOST MINI drivers to be completely friendly, but was snubbed by several when taking my car in for service at Mini of Universal City, what's up with that? Were they jealous b/c I have a cabrio?

the MINI was my car(I knew it was the first car I would ever buy, first car was a free beater) about 2 years before I purchased it. Then, i finally saved up the 19k needed to buy it...and I did. The first time I sat in a MINI, it was MY MINI and I cant even begin to tell you how that felt. This is MY DREAM CAR"...It was like a dream for me...I hope you have the same fealing.

When I first saw the MINI in a car rag, about a year before the release,I knew I wanted one.I had a classic 30 years ago.It was the most fun car I had ever owned.Had a roof rack on it so I could haul doors, and tools to do retro fits to peoples houses.Drove it for 2 years.

When the new MINI was being put out,I knew I wanted one.It took a year or so,but I got me one.Wish I still had the classic Mini. But I plan on keeping this on for a long time
Oh I hope the 07 turbo does not make me take another bank loan

Yes, this is an obsession that I have had since my first Mini - a classic Mini race car that I bought just out of high school sometime in the early nineteen eightees and tried to make street legal.

I saw the original MINI prototype in 1996 and fell in love with it then. I've had four classics over the years and I now have a new S that I swore I would leave exactly as God intended it to be - 100% stock. Yeah, right! I'm on my third set of wheels and have added a Borla exhaust, CAI, Whalen, Redline boots, window tint, and have a ton of stuff in the garage ready to be fit - front & rear M7 grills, a chrome S grill, a chrome retrofit interior, an M7 oil catch can, M7 springs, adjustable control arms, a steering fan cover, and a bunch of other stuff that I can't remember (I've been on a goody buying spree.)

Although I have been very much involved in other cars - namely the VW GTI hot-hatches - I have to say that the MINI is the most fun. And I also have to say that the people in the MINI community are the best.

It bit my wife bad. One year ago we went to the Portland auto show looking for a replacement for her BMW 330i. Our budget for her next car was fairly open. We looked at the Mercedes CLK, Porsche Boxster-S, BMW Z-4, Infinity G35 coup, Mazda RX-8, etc. As soon as she sat in the Mini it was over. Placed our order on 2/14/04. Should have our car in 2 weeks. Long delivery due to changing order from Cooper-CVT to Cooper-S auto. She is now checking her order status at least once a day on MINIUSA site. I have to admit it is fun. I have already bought all the accesories for a car we don't even have yet.

Obsession--No, it's a Disease

"The Adventure" started in June of '03 after seeing The Italian Job. That merely sunk the hook in deeper. Ordered a LY/LY MCS from Julie Saxa at Classic MINI, Ohio, then passed on it when the JCW kits were delayed. Re-Ordered an '04 for October delivery, and then increased the order by one as a suprise gift for my wife. In all there were 8 that were delivered on a Concours Transport truck. Thus was the beginning of the "Group Buy."

Then my Mother-in-law (80) saw my wife's CR/W MCS and wanted one of her own. Back to Julie & Classic for a PW/B MC with CVT. The car arrived in February of 04; and there isn't a store or parking lot in Stockton, CA where she can go that she doesn't get stopped by someone asking about her car.

Even went on a "pilgrimage" to Classic last April to meet Julie and Brian in Parts; and I'm headed back again this April. Does it end here? No Way.

We bought a Boxster S in April of 03, and it just sits, so now that's up for sale, and Saturday we ordered our 4th MINI from Julie, a Hot Orange/Blue MCS Cabrio with the automatic trans. Can't wait for the Concours truck to hit Santa Clara in May! In fact, I'm looking for more "partners" to fill the truck and reduce costs.

Truly an obsession?
Are you kidding?

Surely we are obsessed.
But in a good way.
Could be worse. I don't have any other vices.

yup, and loving every minute

First saw one in 01. BMW/ MINI does there extreme temp/ altitude testing where I live. So I first saw them motoring around in 2001. July of 02 I finally was able to get to a dealer and test drive one, placed an order the next day. Recieved it in Dec of 02, and have been obsessed every since. Many die-cast models, rc's, Italian Job movies. Too many hours spent detaling, and checking out NAM. At least the family is ok with it, and seem to like it as much as I do. Its all fun, I still get questions, and thumbs up all the time, from all different ages.

Hi, my name is Nik, and I have Mini Obsession Disorder..

Once its in your head, it never leaves!!
First saw a classic mini London in '97. Knew I had to have one. Thought about bringing one back. Then I heard the were going to be bringing the new ones over here. Couldn't wait! Just turned one year on my Indi Blue. Love every minute.

Oh man! Please notice that the acronym for MINI Obsession Disorder is MOD! Which is what happens when you REALLY get obsessive with your MINI! The modding bug is so contagious!

Trust me it is!!! And it will only get worse. At lease till you get one. And everytime you drive another car than your mini you will feel something's missing and that you need your Mini and nothing else will suffice. I started feeling the same way when the Italian Job came out and that was in May of 2003. In Oct 2004 I was going to my dealer everytime I went to the city. Then Nov 6th came and I finally couldn't take it anymore and went and ordered a 05 Jet Black/Black Mini S. During the month and a half it took it to come in, I was at my dealer a total of 7-8 times, maby more, and took a test drive almost every time. I got my baby on Dec 22nd and to date have over 3500 miles. As soon as you have a downpayment, go order it. You will thank yourself later.:smile::smile:

I'm way beyond obsessed...

Everyone...my parents, relatives, and friends - have all said "when you get the car will you finally shut up about MINIs?"

...they're in for a surprize.

MINI magazines in my house are referred to as pornography!

I spend WAY too much time on this site.

I confessed to an employee today that reading about the Dragon gives me heart palpItations and shortness of breath. Boy, did she bust out laughing. Then I asked her if she could watch my kids while the wife and I go. And, I'm talking about the '06 edition, not this year's!

My mood picks up when ever I see one on the street.

I want to drive by Webb Motorsports everytime I'm in Denver. (which is every 3 weeks)

I go to bed thinking about what's going to get modified and in what order.

And, oh yeah, I DON'T EVEN OWN ONE YET!!!!!!!!!

Somebody please help me. I think I really need it. I can NOT wait until I get it.

So, yes, I believe it's an obsession.

(another reply just reminded me -- I have 5 models on my desk at my office and both movies at home (and then there's the fact that we don't have to say which movies ))

I think most everyone with a MINI is obssessed with their car. The MINI isn't a car that a "typical Joe Schmoe looking for a mode of transportation" would even consider. Have you ever heard of anyone cross shopping a MINI with a Corolla?.....no. The MINI is more than just a car. Don't worry, you aren't the only one that's obssessed.
