I apologise if a thread like this has been done before, but just thought I'd start one to see a rough figure, and see how much shaft they giving me.

No need to give major details, just the following.

Yearly Amount: $1262
Insured: Comp, Collision, Basic Liability.
Insurer: Mercury Insurance Group
Other: Have multi-car discount.
Locality: Southern California

$1047.60 per 12 months for my 2005 MCSC

GEICO (just came to NJ in September!)

Liability - $131.60
Property damage - $173.60
Medical - $147.40
Uninsured motorist - $18
Uninsured prop damage - $19
Comprehensive ($1k deductible) - $74.40
Collision ($1k deductible) - $350.20
Emergency Roadside Assistance (redundant) - $7.80
Rental car reimbursement - $37.60

(This is only $142/year more than my 1997 Ford Explorer was!)

New Jersey, over 25 male, multi-car and safe :P driver discount

ps: NJ has INSANELY high rates...before GEICO my Explorer was over $1700 per year

Alstate just insured my 05 MCS for $860 per year in Southern Cal. But I have my house insured with them as well so I get a discount and good driver discount. Multi car discount and $500 deductible.

Allstate

04MC CVT
20 year old driver
Roughly $3k a year
$259/month almost as much as car payment of $293.70
With limits at the max on all areas.
I'm with my parents with a multiple car discount (of 5).
My sister is 18 and her 05 MCC CVT is almost $100 less a month. I hate insurance companies and there crap about age and sex of a driver to determine insurance rates.
What can I say there rough on teenagers and lower twenty year old up here. I'm 20 and my insurance has creeped higher in the last few years. They say it will go down when I hit 21.

Oops. Sorry, my fault. Many, many years ago, when I was your age I had 14 accidents in two years. I could not drive a mile without hitting something. Boat load of tickets as well.

However, I have had no accidents and few tickets since....

My apologies to all....

Credit also plays a part...

I pay $1200 a year now

22 years old, 1 ticket 5 years ago, my own policy with multi-car discount. If I buy the house I am looking at, it will be about $1000 a year because the homeowners discount.

But I am with my parents. As in they pay the insurance and I pay them. So i'm not sure of the credit deal. I do know once I get to age 21 and then married (some day) it will go down. Till then there is no way in hell my car will be a mini van unless it is made by Mini and is as fun to drive.

it's apples and apples. There are a lot of varibles to take into account...age, deduction, location, driving history, amount of each type of insurance, safety features(although that's pretty standard on these babies) and lastly it's not info that should be given out to anyone. Asking is a faux pas.

Faux pas... Just don't answer if your delicate sensibilities are offended...

24yo F. Good record (only 1 ticket) w/ State Farm. Right now I'm paying a little over $900/year. In 3.5 months, that will go down to $700/year -- whoopie!!!!

Boucoup coverage and $500 deductable.

For the teen drivers... when I started driving, I didn't have to pay insurance. And neither did my mother. Her policy (as with most) covered non-principle drivers until their first accident, after which the driver had to pay to be put on the policy. Thankfully, I never got into an accident so I never had to pay car insurance until I bought my MINI. Just a suggestion for parental conversation.

GEICO - $972/yr.

2005 MCS
Northern California
Daily commuter car (12k-15k mi/yr)
50+ y/o male, safe driver & multi-car discounts
(with an 18 y/o female as one of the other drivers - might make a diff?)

FWIW, GEICO has been terrific about claims. (My wife and daughter have been rear-ended a total of 3 times in the last 6 mos! ) We had hassles with Allstate before. Could be just local office variability, for all I know, but very happy with GEICO.

I haven't looked in a while, but Consumer Reports used to do an annual survey of car insurance companies. ISTR it was usually in the April issue?
So a new one might be coming out soon.

$640.00/yr - American Family - 250 deductable 250/500k - numerous discounts (age, homeowner,numerous vehicles)

It was kind of funny, my agent had a heck of a time finding the MCS in his computer and then when he did he rolled his eyes and mumbled something like" whoa thats a category 29". Worried, I said something like "they got 6 airbags for cris sakes". He then explained that it was a safe car but the damage repair costs were up with cadillacs and the like. After all that I was expecting $600 a month but was pleasantly surprised!

Not likely. But since you bring it up you didn't need to answer to mine if your delicate sensibilities are offended by a different point of view. It's simply an opinion. Old fashioned probably. Sort of like common sense. Common decency. The world is a somewhat more informed place due to computers and it's a heck of a lot more nosey too. But offended? No. Not really. I drive my MINI, but would never think of asking someone else what they pay for insurance. Sort of private to me. People are wicked paranoid of being overcharged and it's much simpler to ask everyone than to actually do their homework and compare the prices of different companies. Maybe lazy. Maybe not. I can see asking about problems you might have with a car, or a dealship. I'm just old fashioned that way. But offended? Nah. Skunks are offensive. Condescending people are offensive. Selfish people are offensive. Hmmm. People who don't bath often are offensive. Pushy people are offensive. Oh yeah, and people who think I'm offended by a post and don't ask first are offensive and poor judges of others. Doesn't mean you're a bad person. Just uninformed. Motor on dude.

We love USAA! We were with Mercury until my late father-in-law let us know we could get USAA based on his having been an Air Force officer in WWII! They are wonderful!!

US insurance is soooo cheap! you guys are complaining? I drive a ds/w mcs and here's mine

rate: 5100 CDN!!! (would've been 9100 if i used my Toronto address)
coverage: everything (not sure what's everything though)
Location: Toronto/Ottawa (using address in Ottawa saved me 4 grand!)
Age: 20, male, no accidents, no claims, did insurance courses that reduced rates, no tickets
Company: Royal Sun Alliance

Toronto rates are highway robbery... a single ticket and they won't insure u anymore... saying you are too liable to cover you... took me nearly 3 weeks to find a insurance company to take me! i mean they reject people and just wont cover you after an accident.. ive heard people lose their car cuze insurance company paid to repair the car, but dont wnt to cover him anymore... forcing him to sell his car...
