Oil pressure sender sealant?

Hello,

On Tuesday, I took the front end of my r53 apart to replace several things, including my exhaust manifold (with one purchased here on the NAM marketplace), left side cv axle, control arm bushings and ball joints, (along with some other front end stuff). One of the goals has been to remove and replace the oil filter housing while I have the exhaust manifold and subframe out, because not only has the housing been leaking, but the oil filter cap has welded itself onto the housing and has been impossible to remove.

I bought a used oil filter housing off ebay. I bought a new Nissans oil cooler and mounted it to the replacement housing with new gaskets. I did not buy a new oil pressure sender, and plan to use the one that has been on my car (I have no idea if the one that came with the used filter housing is operable). So I need to swap it over to the replacement housing. I have the old housing out of the car.

It looks like new senders sold by the parts houses have a sealant of some sort on the threads. I have Blue Monster pipe dope, and I have teflon tape. Is one or the other preferable for the oil sender application? Both? Neither?

Neither. If the sealant is a dry blue coating on the threads, it is likely blue thread lock. I would not use pipe tape or pipe dope on a car.

It’s a white coating. ECS has the part here:

One annoying thing is that the Bentley manual instructs to replace the sealing washer when replacing the oil pressure sensor. But there is no sealing washer!
