R50/53 Check engine light

Check engine light

I I have a 2006 Mini Cooper the check engine light recently came on and I need to have it smogged it's not the gas cap any ideas would be appreciated thanks

It could be a hundred different things. Try to get your hands on an odb2 code reader and post the resulting error codes here.

Engine light

A friend came over with an OBO and this was the read p1477. Does that narrow it down to 999 or what do you think. Thank you for your advice

Finding the source of the leak seems to be the bigger headache but if it’s a hose that’s accessible it shouldn’t be a crazy fit. The intercooler isn’t hard to remove.

Just to double check, is this a R50 (natural aspirated) or R53 (forced induction, with compressor) Mini?

P1477 is the leak pump for the evap system. Not intercooler related. Check for cracked lines or rubber connections that are torn or disconnected.

There are numerous ways to find this leak but a smoke test will ID it quicker.

thank you for your response. Still checking cracks in the lines or rubber. We appreciate your response. Also went to AutoZone where they offer free videos and the same code came up p1477 thanks again
