Check engine light

I woke up this morning and got to work late and noticed my check engine light was on. The car drove fine and there were no other warning messages other than this light. I'm low on gas and that's the only thing I'm thinking could be it. Will check again after work. This is the first "mini" issue with the car in 7k miles. Thoughts?

You can go into your vehicle status screen and see why the light is on.

I meant to add that, I did under check control and it read "all systems ok". I will check the gas cap but I've been driving it around for about a week since last getting gas.

Dealer said it was the programming update. I didn't know that would throw a CEL? Oh well...

My guess is that the programming update was to fix a diagnostic trouble code which illuminated your CEL, and not the cause of the CEL. Either way, you're fixed now.

What is the programming exactly? Like what does it do differently?

^Dunno^. I should have said software update. Without going too deep into it, your car's engine control computer has the capability to adapt to its environment, making slight changes based upon fuel quality, atmospheric conditions, even how clogged your air filter is. If the adaptation for any one of these parameters goes beyond a pre-set threshold, it can set a check engine light. It may be that the dealer did a software update to re-set one of those thresholds. Just a guess.
