R53 Sunroof Issue

Hey folks, I have a 2005 R53 and I just started noticing an issue with my sunroof. When it begins to slide open, it sort of jumps up and down a little then about halfway through it smooths out and closes. The noise does not occur when it slides shut, only when opening. When putting it into the vent position it doesn't make any noise, just when it slides open. I check the rails for debris and found nothing. Does someone know the mechanism very well? I don't want it to fail on me and have the sunroof stuck open since it rains a lot where I live. Let me know if anyone has had any similar issues!

@mrbean Mr bean - I haven't had this issue as of yet, but I am now in an environment where is subjected to an excessive amount of widblown dirt that potentially accumulates in the sunroof tracks/glides. Would you recommend using a dry, e.g: Lithium type, to avoid dirt sticking to the lube...or perhaps something else... (common grease?)?.
Thanks.

I love this question - there are very good arguments for/against either dry or wet lube.
I spend a lot of time riding both mountain bikes and dirt bikes, everyone I meet has an opinion on whether to use dry or wet lube on chains. I'm a wet guy with dirtbikes and dry with bicycles.
For sunroofs, I've used both in the past and don't have a strong opinion either way. I've found wet lubes last longer but if dirt is a concern then go dry. Any type of lube is better than none

I think I'll try dry... Whlist I'm still stuck out here in the desert.

Thank you!

Where, exactly, does the lube go?

My sunroof started making noises I didn't like a few years ago and I applied some grease where I thought it should go. It didn't help. Now I only use my sunroof in the vent position although I would LOVE to be able to fully open it again.

Their is also sunroof grease/ sunroof lubricant and that is used also on the little green or black felt cables. People will clean off grease or just re-grease.
