With the light rain and foggy mist, we've been having lately, my back window gets all messed up. Tonight I couldn't even see out of it while driving home. I use the rear wash/wiper at times but I'm afraid that with the amount of road gunk that gets thrown onto the window it will scratch the glass.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix? Mudflaps?
Someone in snow country must have an answer.

This is an issue on all flat-back vehicles (Minivans, SUVs, hatchbacks, etc.). It is a matter of airflow around/behind the vehicle.

About the only thing that I know of that solves this issue is an appropriately designed air dam. Usually this type doesn't look very appealing and certainly are not helpful for performance.

yeah, Mini2Go is right about it being trait of hatchbacks and the like, and not a problem that has anything really MINI specific about it. There are just a lot of vortices around the back because of the squared of end. That leads to deposits being made on the hatch / hatch glass.

Hhehhehhehheh, you said "schmutz". Don't worry about the glass being scratched, it takes a lot to scratch glass. Worry about that tiny washer fluid reservoir going dry every 2 days like mine does on these salty days.

You can't change the shape of the car. But you can add mud flaps. This might reduce the amount of "schmutz". The rear wheels have virtually nothing covering the kick-up of road grime. I don't want my MCS looking like a semitrailer with big'ol flaps hangin' there. Has anyone seen cool sporty looking mud flaps?

Get the nudflaps with the 2 chicks sitting back to back (like on the semi trucks) !!!

Just kidding.

I get a lot more than just the misting. After hwy driving I find a tar like crud on the paint that doesn't wash off, I have to give it a light wax. The washer fluid comment is so true, it goes fast.

Ahh, yes - the tar comment is also so true. Fixable, but very frustrating.
