R50/53 factory mud guards......
factory mud guards......
Does anyone have any information on these?Yay or Nay.I'm primarily interested in the rears, in an effort to curb some of the spray that routine BURIES the @ss end of my ride
The factory ones are designed for the front end, to minimize dirt splash from the driven wheels. Installing the requires drilling a couple of small holes in the inside of the plastic fender skirts. ~15 minute job if you have an electric drill.
I live on a dirt/gravel driveway and they seem to help a bit to kee the front-wheel splash off the car doors.
Anything for the rear wheels is DIY. If you find a solution to the dirty rear end, let us all know

have you done the rear mount modification on an "S"?I'm at my wits end trying to keep the back end of my car clean(er),and I'm willing to pay the piper, timewise. If not you, do you know anyone else who has done this?
It is not the rear wheels that is causing all the dirt to accumulate on the rear of the car.
It is the hatchback design that causes the dirt to "cling" to the rear.
Imagine putting the car in a wind tunnel and what happens is the air goes acrross the car, both sides and top, and then come around to the rear where is will just stick.
Mud flaps will do minimum efforts to keep the rear of your car clean.
It's just the design of the car. This is why harchbacks have wipers. Sedans do not have wipers on the rear because the air flow does not flow the same as a hatchback. It's just a fact, something we all have to deal with.

The answer is yes I have the mud flaps. Do they keep the boot cleaner? Not much if any. If you still want to do it. Let me know. As far as I know I'm the only one that has done it. Here's the proof to Kramseib post.

I have the front mud flaps on my MC,they help with backroad and snow slush from getting on the doors. The rears,IMHO would be a waste of money. There is no car behind the back wheels, and the stuff,as in dirt, mud, leaves, snow, stuff that sticks to the boot is just part of owning a MINI
