R50/53 r50 lower crankshaft cradle housing
r50 lower crankshaft cradle housing
Is it advisable to disassemble the lower cradle housing by removing all bolts and cleaning the surfaces before reapplying the sealer? I'm in the process of ordering new bolts due to the old ones stretching during the crank torquing. Concerning the sealer, is there a risk of it cracking, or can I simply torque the new bolts without reapplying it? The gray seal appears to be adequately compressed as the bolts are securely fastened, albeit not torqued, and it visually appears to be in good condition. What are your thoughts on this?

lower bed plate was cleaned and new sealer reapplied, the issue is bolts started to stretch as they recommend new bolts, however if you measure the lengths there are tolerances you can get away with. This was the third time these bolts were reused and I didn't measure them and it wasn't the charmer. Book recommended new bolts as they always want the middle class to spend all their money so we stay poor, but in this case I really needed new bolts...blah blah blah.
So I was in the middle of reassembly when I encountered the stretch bolt phenomenon and therefore had to quit right then and order new bolts with the bed plate newly secured with fresh sealer the recommended grey stuff.
So should I rip it all apart and start over, or just use the newly acquired bolts which I have in hand...???
PS Thanks for the link.

You are that far in. If you are replacing bolts, I think you want to take it all apart. Removing one, and snaking past a full disassembly is one thing, but you are doing all. It’s not much more effort at this point to repeat. If you get it wrong, you will find out at the worst time. How many miles do you have to do this 3 times? My 05 has 160K, and has not been touched yet.
Uh about 160K actually. First time bought it with a grenated engine. The oil pump seals were toast causing it to lose pressure at number four.
you should get an oil pressure gauge and observe for bouncy needle.
The grey sealer acts as a gasket, I'll check it out and make sure its going to work, if not I'll redo it, worse that can happen is oil leaking out......but oil pressure is very critical in those mini engines it seems so I may redo the seal just to ensure its as sealed as possible. oil leaks means oil pressure is decreasing in your engine...can cause bad things...
