SS front brake hoses R53 to R56

Which lines are best for the “Poor Mans” brake conversion on my R53 MCS to the R56 calipers …WayMotorWorks versus ECS tuning ? Thanks

I had the ECS ones on both my MINIs if anything i like the red lines as they also match the JCW red. Easy to install and we have the addition insulation on protentional rub point dependent on model, just a a little extra insurance.

ECS, what is the difference between a conversion hose and a regular R56 hose?

The WMW description says it fits the R56 caliper and the body of an R53, but doesn’t specifically say what the issue is. I would think it would call out the hardline fitting of an R53 being different if that were the case, but instead it’s vague and says “body”.

The R53 caliper has banjo fittings requiring a copper gasket and the R56 has a threaded direct fitting to fit the caliper(poor-man brakes)...

Does the ECS Tuning brake lines swivel at the caliper, so the brake hose does not twist? Thanks

i understand that part, but I guess I could have been more clear. The WMW description says this but also also implies, at least to me, that more than regular R56 lines are needed for the conversion. It the the underlined part that appears a couple of times in the description that’s making me wonder.

“These are NOT just a set of lines from an R56. These are special made to fit the body on the R53 and special fittings to screw into the R56 calipers so the line will not get twisted.”

Just trying to find out if these and the ECS lines are really needed, or if regular R56 lines will work as long as they’re properly installed(not twisted). It’s been a while, but I used StopTech R56 braided lines and think I installed the lines on the calipers first, letting the line spin around freely while tightening, then connected the hardline end with swivel connector.

Installing the stock rubber brake hoses will work but, they will not fit into the factory hose brackets and as you said, they should be installed on the calipers first to avoid twisting ...

They dont swivel. People take the R56 stock line and use it instead of the R53 line which is made for the ATE front caliper design with a square head , which the other R56 Cooper brakes are the TRW design.

You for sure need our WMW lines as the are specifically made to do the conversion.

The R56 lines do not fit the body side correctly as the bracket on the R53 is different than the bracket on the R56. So if you install R56 lines you often end up with the line not being able to fully screw together, and/or the line being twisted because you have to try and get it turned to fit into the bracket, even if only slightly which will cause stress on the line and premature failure later.
https://www.waymotorworks.com/stainl...rsion-kit.html

The lines are not expensive and will save you time during install as it will all simply bolt together with no hassle or worry of the line failing later due to stress from twisting a little.
